{"id":411929,"date":"2025-11-29T02:46:16","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T02:46:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/411929\/"},"modified":"2025-11-29T02:46:16","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T02:46:16","slug":"scottsdale-man-fined-for-defrauding-investors","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/411929\/","title":{"rendered":"Scottsdale man fined for defrauding investors"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PHOENIX \u2014 A <a href=\"https:\/\/ktar.com\/arizona-news\/robert-swagger-fraud-pureflix\/5779212\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Scottsdale<\/a> man has been fined more than $240,000 for investment fraud from late 2018 to early 2023, the Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) announced on Nov. 19.<\/p>\n<p>John A. Perez allegedly \u201cfraudulently (engaged) in unlicensed advisory services\u201d from November 2018 to February 2023 and has been ordered to pay $174,087 in restitution fees and another $71,000 in administrative penalties.<\/p>\n<p>Details on Scottsdale man\u2019s fraudulent investment services<\/p>\n<p>According to the ACC, Perez posed as \u201ca wealthy retired investment adviser and stockbroker\u201d and claimed that he could teach investors \u201chow to significantly increase their investments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Perez promised gains based off of his \u201ccarpool investment account\u201d and sent investors screenshots of the account to convince them he had managed their money. However, the ACC found this touted account showed \u201clittle to no activity\u201d in reality.<\/p>\n<p>Over the four-plus-year period, Perez allegedly met with at least eight individuals or groups across Arizona for fee-based \u201ctraining sessions.\u201d ACC case documents <a href=\"https:\/\/docket.images.azcc.gov\/0000215650.pdf?i=1764378734373\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">state<\/a> that these sessions ranged in cost from $2,500 to $20,000.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the investors involved in the fraudulent scheme claimed Perez \u201caccessed, traded and fully managed their TD Ameritrade accounts,\u201d the ACC said.<\/p>\n<p>Besides falsely representing himself as an investment advisor, Perez allegedly didn\u2019t disclose a pair of past criminal convictions for property theft.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"twitter-follow-button\" href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pwmoses11\" data-show-count=\"false\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Follow @pwmoses11<\/a><\/p>\n<p>We want to hear from you.<\/p>\n<p style=\"margin-top: 0px;\">Have a story idea or tip?
