CHICAGO (WLS) — Black Friday brought a much needed boost of support to businesses Chicago’s Little Village neighborhood.<\/p>\n
The community has been a hotspot for federal immigration enforcement, and people are trying to bring the area back to life.<\/p>\n

Click here to watch<\/a><\/p>\n It’s been a difficult couple months for businesses across Little Villages as many people stayed away from the area because of federal immigration operations. As those operations are now winding down, and the holiday season is in full force, business owners are hoping for more customers.<\/p>\n “It was rough we were struggling in many ways people were getting afraid of getting deported people weren’t coming out so sales dropped dramatically,” Rosy’s Bakery store manager Eduardo Vazquez said.<\/p>\n Black Friday is a little more important this year for businesses lined up along 26th Street in Little Village. They’re hoping for any kind of bounce back in sales after a difficult couple of months.<\/p>\n RELATED |<\/strong> Black Friday fever hits Chicago area malls | See store hours<\/a><\/p>\n “Slow, very slow business, very slow,” Tony’s Fashion owner Antonio Rueda said. “Mostly a lot of people are afraid to come out because of ICE.”<\/p>\n Tony’s Fashion is known for its dresses and luxury clothing, which has also been hit by President Donald Trump’s tariff policies. The owner says while fewer customers are coming, it’s also costing much more to bring in merchandise.<\/p>\n “Our dresses maybe went up maybe $300 more, $200 more,” Rueda said.<\/p>\n On Black Friday, there was a little more action in the neighborhood as people try to shop for the holiday season. Business owners were seeing things improve one sale at a time.<\/p>\n “Little by little, we’re starting to see increase in sales, but it’s not dramatic,” Vazquez said. “It’s little by little. People are still afraid.”<\/p>\n
