When it comes to legendary broadcaster Al Michaels, you tend to have several camps.<\/p>\n
For some listeners, Michaels is an unimpeachable icon who deserves the opportunity to go out on his own terms<\/a> and is above criticism. For others, the 81-year-old has understandably<\/a> lost his fastball<\/a> and often calls NFL games with the enthusiasm of someone sitting at home<\/a> watching Tracker on a quiet Sunday evening.<\/p>\n The first group can allow Michaels some grace<\/a>, and even appreciate that he doesn\u2019t call every touchdown with a \u201cGusgasm<\/a>\u201d or the flourish someone like Kevin Harlan<\/a> puts on a big play. The second group would love nothing more than to feel that the announcer has command of the game they\u2019re watching and can meet the moment.<\/p>\n To be fair to him, he\u2019s had plenty of moments this season where he seemed to rediscover his spark<\/a>. However, the high-profile nature of the Black Friday game didn\u2019t do him many favors.<\/p>\n The first group probably didn\u2019t notice anything off-kilter about Michaels\u2019 call of Prime\u2019s Black Friday NFL game between the Philadelphia Eagles and Chicago Bears. Amazon seems unlikely to move on from him just yet, but now that they\u2019ve got a few announcers in the fold on the NBA side, including Harlan<\/a>, one wonders how long they\u2019ll stick with him, legend or not.<\/p>\n \t\n
