{"id":412582,"date":"2025-11-29T09:41:28","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T09:41:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/412582\/"},"modified":"2025-11-29T09:41:28","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T09:41:28","slug":"woman-60-rescued-after-falling-into-cave-in-lake-wells","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/412582\/","title":{"rendered":"Woman, 60, rescued after falling into cave in Lake Wells"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">A 60-year-old woman has survived a 12-hour ordeal after falling into a cave in remote Western Australia, prompting a multi-agency rescue in the Goldfields on Friday night.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Police and paramedics were called to David Carnegie Road in Lake Wells, about 1,400 kilometres north east of Perth, at around 5pm after reports a woman had fallen eight metres into a cave system in an area called Empress Spring.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Department of Fire and Emergency Services crews, Laverton Police, St John WA, the WA Country Health Service and the WA Department of Health assisted at the scene.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">As the teams waited for specialist vertical rescue equipment to arrive, the woman&#8217;s partner acted quickly by lowering equipment such as first aid supplies, water and camp chairs into the cave which provided assistance overnight.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" alt=\"A fire engine and emergency services personnel work to free a woman from a cave. \" class=\"Image_image__5tFYM ContentImage_image__DQ_cq\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/11\/3ecabf495312f3058bcc08123ad22bd3\" loading=\"lazy\" data-component=\"Image\" data-lazy=\"true\"\/><\/p>\n<p class=\"Typography_base__sj2RP FigureCaption_text__zDxQ5 Typography_sizeMobile12__w_FPC Typography_lineHeightMobile20___U7Vr Typography_regular__WeIG6 Typography_colourInherit__dfnUx\" data-component=\"Typography\">The woman was finally freed early Saturday morning.\u00a0 (Supplied: WA Police)<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">The woman was freed safely at 5:35am on Saturday and taken to Laverton Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.<\/p>\n<p>Conditions &#8216;challenging&#8217;<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">Laverton Police Officer in Charge Senior Sergeant Brendan Grogan said the remote location made the rescue challenging, but the couple&#8217;s preparedness made a big difference.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph_paragraph__iYReA\">&#8220;It reinforces the importance of being well prepared, as the woman and her partner were, and serves as a reminder of how quickly a perfect day outdoors can shift into a potentially life-threatening emergency,&#8221;
