{"id":412959,"date":"2025-11-29T13:56:14","date_gmt":"2025-11-29T13:56:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/412959\/"},"modified":"2025-11-29T13:56:14","modified_gmt":"2025-11-29T13:56:14","slug":"haynes-king-frustrated-georgia-scores-style-points-defending-prolific-qb","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/412959\/","title":{"rendered":"Haynes King frustrated, Georgia scores style points defending prolific QB"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-text-v2\">ATHENS \u2014 Anyone who suggests Georgia didn\u2019t score any style points beating Georgia Tech wasn\u2019t watching the play of Kirby Smart\u2019s defense.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">The Bulldogs, who ranked eighth in the nation in Red Zone defense entering the Tech game, kept Haynes King from passing or rushing for a touchdown in the 16-9 win over the Yellow Jackets on Friday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">UGA opponents scored 17 touchdowns and made four field goals in 29 trips inside the Georgia 20-yard line entering the game with Georgia Tech on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">The Bulldogs made King, who accounted for five touchdowns in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.espn.com\/college-football\/boxscore\/_\/gameId\/401628439\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">last season\u2019s 44-42 Georgia win in eight overtimes <\/a>with 303 yards passing and two TD strikes, along with 110 yards rushing and 3 TD runs, look mortal most of Friday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">King\u2019s final line at Mercedes-Benz Stadium: 19-of-27 passing, 181 yards and an interception; 10 carries for 39 yards.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">It\u2019s the first time since the Yellow Jackets\u2019 2024 season-opening game against Florida State last season \u2014 23 games ago \u2014that a defense managed that feat, and King was frustrated by it after the game.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">\u201cWe found ways to move the ball,\u201d said King, one of the most dangerous dual-threat quarterbacks in the nation, \u201cwe just couldn\u2019t finish in the Red Zone.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">Time and time again, the Bulldogs came up with key stops, led by KJ Bolden\u2019s nine tackles from the safety position.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">King, whose team fell behind Pitt last Saturday in a 42-28 loss that greatly damaged the No. 23-ranked Yellow Jackets\u2019 CFP hopes, said slow starts are a problem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">\u201cYou know, I don\u2019t know how many plays we had, but I think we had like 21 in the first quarter, that\u2019s not very good, unless you\u2019re scoring from far out and had pretty explosive plays, but we didn\u2019t do that,\u201d said King, whose longest pass play went for 30 yards to UGA transfer tight end Brett Seither in the first quarter.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-text-v2\">\u201cWe spot people a couple possessions, you can\u2019t really run that much either, you gotta go tempo, like I said, spread it out.
