{"id":413958,"date":"2025-11-30T00:35:19","date_gmt":"2025-11-30T00:35:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/413958\/"},"modified":"2025-11-30T00:35:19","modified_gmt":"2025-11-30T00:35:19","slug":"ice-protesters-clash-with-cops-at-nyc-government-building-after-reports-of-agents-rounding-up-illegal-migrants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/413958\/","title":{"rendered":"ICE protesters clash with cops at NYC government building after reports of agents rounding up illegal migrants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Hundreds\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/09\/27\/us-news\/brooklyn-anti-ice-protest-draws-200\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">of rabid anti-ICE protesters<\/a>\u00a0clashed with cops in New York City on Saturday \u2014 with NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch blasting the feds for putting her officers in harm\u2019s way, according to sources.<\/p>\n<p>The angry demonstrators shouting \u201cICE out of New York\u201d descended on a parking garage in Lower Manhattan, where dozens of federal agents had gathered inside to prepare for an apparent immigration raid, the NYPD said.<\/p>\n<p>More than 150 anti-ICE protestors descended on a lower Manhattan government building Saturday and clashed with police after reports that federal agents are planning to round up illegal migrants in the area later this weekend. William Farrington<\/p>\n<p>Cops responded to the chaotic scene near the US General Services Administration building on Centre Street after receiving a 911 call about more than 150 protestors blocking traffic and access to the garage.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The agitators were spotted trying to climb the garage\u2019s grated windows \u2013 only to be dragged off by cops \u2013 while others chanted \u201cICE out of New York! ICE out now!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere were people climbing up trying to see who ICE had inside,\u201d recalled one protestor. \u201cThey were arresting people for no reason.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Some\u00a0of the demonstrators\u00a0even\u00a0lifted and threw planters and police barricades towards NYPD officers, sources said.<\/p>\n<p>The mob also shouted expletives at authorities and screamed \u201cyou are corrupt!\u201d \u2014 ignoring pleas from cops to \u201cback up\u201d behind the barricades they set up.<\/p>\n<p>Cops were called after protesters were blocking access to a garage near a building at Centre Street. William Farrington<\/p>\n<p>Some screamed \u201cf\u2014k you!\u201d and gave the middle finger to a person in a van trying to drive along the strip. They ran away after being confronted by cops.<\/p>\n<p>At least 18 anti-ICE agitators were arrested\u00a0for obstructing government administration and disorderly conduct, according to the NYPD. No injuries were reported.<\/p>\n<p>People were blocking traffic with reports of individuals also throwing and pushing barriers toward police. Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>One tourist at the scene claimed both sides were \u201cpretty aggressive.\u201d Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>Hours later, Christopher Raia,\u00a0who runs the FBI\u2019s New York office, called Tisch with\u00a0Special Agent Ricky Patel, the head of Homeland Security Investigations\u00a0in Newark, to apologize over the confrontation between cops and protestors, sources told The Post.<\/p>\n<p>Tisch \u2013 who announced earlier this month she\u2019ll remain the top cop next year under Mayor-elect and longtime ICE critic Zohran Mamdani \u2013 gave both men an earful, telling them what happened was \u201cunacceptable,\u201d the sources said.<\/p>\n<p>The incident took place a week after an illegal immigrant was arrested by ICE agents in Chinatown for allegedly selling counterfeit merchandise.
