than Djokovic’s sum in 2020.

Despite enjoying a blistering season overall, Alcaraz fell short of <a 2016.

Alcaraz finished ahead of world No.2 Jannik Sinner who posted 11,500 ranking points.

There was a sizeable gap between second and third place with Alexander Zverev finishing with 5,160 points – 6,300 less than the Italian.

Read more on tennisThe dominant duo

The rankings show the level of dominance of Alcaraz and Sinner have enjoyed this season, exemplified by the fact they have jointly won eight of the nine ATP events with the biggest ranking points up for grabs.

Alcaraz is the first male player to finish a season with over 12,000 points since Djokovic five years ago.

And impressively he earned 88 per cent of his total (10,640) between the months of April and November.

Alcaraz, Sinner and Zverev are just the second trio of players this century to finish as the top three in back-to-back seasons.

The last to do it was the legendary threesome of Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and <a pocket

The achievement comes as welcome news after Alcaraz was penalised for not participating in ATP Masters 1000 tournaments.

<img decoding="async" alt="Jannick
