The main line of storms is expected between 10 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday \u2014 when most residents will be asleep.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Weather alerts:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 kDvXdO font_openSans articleList\">\n<li class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__StackBase-sc-1fnzlkn-7 ecGWWE iQviKm\">\n<p>Flood Advisory for Harris, Montgomery and Waller counties until 4:15 AM<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">11 p.m. update: Storms have slowed a bit, now going SE at 15mph. 1\u2033 of rain falling in an hours time along the most intense storm cells. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">10 p.m. update: The line of storms is on top of our northern counties. We have a flood advisory with 3\u2033 of rain falling in the past hour. (That\u2019s the green box.) There have also been 40 mph winds and pea-sized hail in the white box. It\u2019s moving SE at 25 mph. Nighttime tornadoes are 2\u20133 times deadlier because warnings were missed while people were fast asleep, missed the warning and couldn\u2019t take cover. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">2. Standard phone alerts wake only about 35% of people, according to a 2023 FEMA\/IPAWS national survey found Wireless Emergency Alerts<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">most phones are silenced or on Do Not Disturb. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">3. Nighttime power outages take ~70% longer to restore, according to Center Point Energy\u2019s 2024 data.
