There were multiple areas throughout the site for fans and attendees to enjoy themselves and catch a break from the sun at attractions under the trees and in the housed merchandise area.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Two show cars adorned with \u201c25\u201d flanked attendees as they walked through the NASCAR Village at Butler Field. While making their way to the ticketed race area, attendees overheard the roar of racecars piercing through Butler Field.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>On the left side of the field, attendees were encouraged to compete in tests of strength offered by recruiters from both the U.S. Army and Navy to win free prizes. The Air Force also featured a large trailer for \u201cActivate: Special Warfare,\u201d a virtual reality experience.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Air Force Lt. Andrew Palmer came from Wisconsin to be a \u201cgoodwill ambassador\u201d for the community and has had a great experience working with NASCAR.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNASCAR is huge supporters of the Air Force,\u201d said Palmer. \u201cIn the past, we\u2019ve had cars that are sponsored by the Air Force, so they\u2019re really glad to have us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Trailers for NASCAR Merchandise were featured on the right side of the field, with opportunities to meet drivers such as Ross Chastain and Chase Elliot.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jeremy Stenike has been attending the Chicago Street Race since it began. He was one of dozens of attendees waiting in line to meet Elliot, who\u2019s competing in the Cup Series under Hendrick Motorsports. The deal made under Lightfoot\u2019s term was good for three years, making this the last Chicago Street Race currently under contract.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With talks to possibly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/athletic\/6433722\/2025\/06\/18\/nascar-san-diego-street-race-2026\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">move<\/a> the Street Race series to San Diego in 2026, it is still unclear whether or not Mayor Brandon Johnson will sign an extended deal with NASCAR to continue the race in the city.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Siobhan Connaghan, a Pilsen resident and Levy Restaurant employee, was working at the Liquid Death stand inside the Fan Plaza. In this section, located near Buckingham Fountain, there were multiple booths, tents and stands for ticketed fans to enjoy, separate from the general public, each sporting different brands and organizations.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Connaghan wasn\u2019t too worried about the race moving locations after this year, though she expressed concerns pertaining to Chicago.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel like [the event] does probably bring a lot of business to the city, so it would probably be a loss for the city if they don\u2019t have it next year,\u201d she said. \u201cWe\u2019ll see how much money I make, and we\u2019ll see if I\u2019m sad or not.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sarah Kitchen, an Appleton, Wisconsin resident who was working the Mike\u2019s Hard Lemonade area inside the Fan Plaza, was excited to be a part of the event as it was her first time working at the Chicago race.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kitchen, who has been a racing fan for a couple of years, had no idea about the possibility of the race moving to the West Coast, and said that the race taking place in Chicago allowed for the event to exude a \u201cbit of an edge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is right downtown between the beautiful lake, the gorgeous city,\u201d she said. \u201cI think this setting, you couldn\u2019t beat it.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Brad Parrott, crew chief for driver Kyle Sieg, has been in the racing business for 40 years now, but has only known Sieg for three years and has been working for him for about four weeks.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Kyle Sieg competes for RSS Racing, a family-owned team, alongside his brother Ryan Sieg.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Parrott, who is from Charlotte, North Carolina, said that he wants to keep the race going in Chicago and feels that he and his crew \u201cneed\u201d to keep coming back to the city.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNew venues are the name of our sport, and as long as NASCAR enjoys it, we enjoy it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Parrot cited the overall love of racing for keeping him around in the field for so long.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou come here, you entertain folks that sponsor the race cars, you mentor people,\u201d he said. \u201cI got 19 wins as a crew chief, so the drive to win keeps bringing me back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Copy edited by Vanessa Orozco<\/p>\n<p>\n\tRelated<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"A family looks at a car from the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series on display in the NASCAR Village&hellip;\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":41587,"comment_status":"","ping_status":"","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[46],"tags":[1406,62,67,132,68],"class_list":{"0":"post-41586","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-nascar","8":"tag-nascar","9":"tag-sports","10":"tag-united-states","11":"tag-unitedstates","12":"tag-us"},"share_on_mastodon":{"url":"https:\/\/pubeurope.com\/@us\/114802463284508685","error":""},"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/41586","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/3"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=41586"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/41586\/revisions"}],"wp:featuredmedia":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media\/41587"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=41586"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=41586"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=41586"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
