Brooklyn\u2019s first \u201cwinter village\u201d \u2014 akin to the popular Bryant Park and Union Square holiday markets \u2014 is getting ripped because its influencer-organizers are demanding a cover charge to even step foot in it.<\/p>\n
The new Williamsburg Winter Village at the BK Backyard Bar is set to host food vendors, holiday shops and interactive pop-up activations \u2013 but unlike its free-to-enter Manhattan counterparts, the Brooklyn spot costs nearly $12 to walk into.<\/p>\n
Brooklyn\u2019s first \u201cwinter village\u201d \u2013 a la the Bryant Park and Union Square holiday markets \u2013 is drawing ire from locals over its entrance fee. Williamsburg Winter Village<\/p>\n
\u201cWhy are [we] paying to get into it to spend even more money inside when there are plenty of other \u201cwinter villages\u201d that you don\u2019t have to pay for,\u201d an incensed TikTok user wrote. \u201cCute idea but pass.\u201d<\/p>\n
Another online user said, \u201cPlease don\u2019t have insane tourist-only carnival prices. <\/p>\n
\u201cTourists will pay anything, but New Yorkers know when they\u2019re being played.\u201d<\/p>\n
The Internet crowd slammed food influencer Rachel Brotman,<\/a> better known online as The Carboholic, and other organizers \u2014 including travel website Bucket Listers<\/a> and influencer agency Nue Mvmnt \u2014 over the entrance fee for the event, which kicks off Dec. 5. <\/p>\n Hot cocoa is poured at the Williamsburg Winter Village in a TikTok promotional video. Tik Tok<\/p>\n The holiday site\u2019s corporate sponsors include Coca-Cola and Kahlua x Dunkin\u2019, while its upscale vendors feature Breads Bakery, pastry chef Daniel Colonel, Gnoccheria and City Bakery\u2019s The Color of Chocolate by Maury Rubin.<\/p>\n Some online denizens also pointed out that the \u201cvillage\u201d isn\u2019t actually in Williamsburg but Greenpoint \u2014 well above Williamsburg\u2019s boundary above McCarren Park.<\/p>\n \u201cI guess for a certain demographic of people, it\u2019s cool, but I don\u2019t think it\u2019s cool,\u201d Greenpoint resident Madeline Pajerowski, 31, told The Post of the event.<\/p>\n \u201c[The neighborhood] has been cool in its own way, but now it has this mass appeal because of influencer culture,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n Scores of commenters on Instagram and TikTok are questioning why Brooklyn\u2019s first \u201cwinter village\u201d warrants an entry fee to shop, Williamsburg Winter Village<\/p>\n \u201cTwelve dollars is just an absolutely outrageous amount of money to just go do a thing if that thing is to spend more money.\u201d<\/p>\n Another local named Allison, 25, said the entry fee would be yet another ridiculous charge added to the typically overpriced hot cocoa and trinkets found at any holiday market.<\/p>\n The Brooklyn pop-up will cost nearly $12 to even enter.
