David Michael Jahn, took off from Gulfport\u2013Biloxi International Airport in a Cessna Skyhawk on Monday, the Coast Guard<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwltv.com\/article\/news\/local\/more-debris-found-in-lake-pontchartrain-as-search-for-missing-plane-continues\/289-47c8d0e1-2b78-4663-9498-c61d9f4425a8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\"> told W<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwltv.com\/article\/news\/local\/more-debris-found-in-lake-pontchartrain-as-search-for-missing-plane-continues\/289-47c8d0e1-2b78-4663-9498-c61d9f4425a8\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">W<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wwltv.com\/article\/news\/local\/more-debris-found-in-lake-pontchartrain-as-search-for-missing-plane-continues\/289-47c8d0e1-2b78-4663-9498-c61d9f4425a8\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">L 4.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The plane vanished from the flight radar at roughly 6:30 p.m., four miles north of New Orleans Lakefront Airport, the outlet said.<\/p>\n<p>There was no distress call from the aircraft, and it is not immediately clear who was in the pilot\u2019s seat when the plane crashed into Lake Pontchartrain, Michael Carastro, the owner of the flight school that owned the plane, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=oJLQgtltTHQ\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">said in a press conference on Tuesday. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Taylor Dickey, 30, was a \u201chighly qualified\u201d pilot, and the aircraft that plunged into the lake was well maintained, according to flight school owner Michael Carastro. Facebook \/ Taylor Dickey<\/p>\n<p>The impact of the plane into the lake was \u201cvery, very violent,\u201d Carastro added.<\/p>\n<p>An hour after it vanished, search teams saw discoloration in the water, and Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries personnel recovered a seat cushion and other debris likely from the aircraft, the Coast Guard told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>The search continued for nearly two days before it was suspended on Wednesday afternoon, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nola.com\/news\/expectant-father-identified-plane-crash-lake-pontchartrain\/article_93fe1d2b-6574-4c90-bd5c-3164e9d80f78.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener nofollow\">according to Nola.com<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jahn and Dickey were both presumed dead after the crash, Carastro said.<\/p>\n<p>Lt. The initial, the preliminary data, indicates that it was not mechanical, so we are going to wait on the official agencies that are investigating the operation. I\u2019m not gonna make any suppositions on how it happened,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Dickey was a \u201chighly qualified\u201d pilot, and the aircraft that plunged into the lake was well maintained, Carastro continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was an unbelievable tragedy,\u201d he told reporters. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019ve been instructing for 46 years. I\u2019ve never, never, had this. It\u2019s my first. So it\u2019s hitting me pretty hard, as well as the rest of the employees here at Apollo and Million Air, because both individuals were very well-liked. And so we\u2019re devastated,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Jahn was identified by the US Navy as a civil engineer corps officer serving with Naval Mobile Construction Battalion 1 in Gulfport and a father-to-be, Nola.com reported.<\/p>\n<p>He was in the midst of training for his commercial pilot\u2019s license and was just short of the required 250 flight hours, Carastro said.<\/p>\n<p>A Change.org petition has been created to change the official name of the Gulfport-Biloxi Airport Authority to \u201cTaylor Dickey Field.\u201d Facebook \/ Taylor Dickey<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDavid was a man of God and dedicated to his family.
