JACKSONVILLE, Fla.<\/strong> \u2013 The post-holiday rush to get home from holiday destinations was in full swing at the Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) Monday morning.<\/p>\n

AAA said this is the final day of the record-breaking Thanksgiving travel period, where over 81 million people drove or took a flight. <\/p>\n

While Sunday was the peak return travel day, News4JAX observed a busy airport Monday morning. As of 5:50 a.m., there were two delays and two cancellations.<\/p>\n

Across the nation, 49,000 flights are forecasted for Monday, and more than 47,000 flights for Tuesday.<\/p>\n

News4JAX spoke with a family that was in town from Texas, heading back home on Monday morning.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great. We\u2019ll see what security is like in five minutes,\u201d Meredith McKay said.<\/p>\n

AAA said 6 million people would be catching flights, but over 73 million people were projected to drive.<\/p>\n

So for this final day of the travel period, try to avoid 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. Experts said that is the worst travel time, but after 8 p.m. should be better.<\/p>\n

Safety is a top priority. So even though you want to get home quickly, make sure to be on the lookout for crashes, construction, and pull over for emergency vehicles.<\/p>\n
