{"id":417495,"date":"2025-12-01T15:50:14","date_gmt":"2025-12-01T15:50:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/417495\/"},"modified":"2025-12-01T15:50:14","modified_gmt":"2025-12-01T15:50:14","slug":"nyc-man-accused-of-leading-120-mph-police-chase-on-mass-highways-in-sports-car","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/417495\/","title":{"rendered":"NYC man accused of leading 120 mph police chase on Mass. highways in sports car"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"LL2N6ADM5ZB4DPN7FIDFMTTF6E\">A Brooklyn man driving a lime-green sports car without lights or plates sparked a high-speed police chase across Massachusetts early Monday, hitting 120 mph before abandoning the car in Hopkinton, state police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"4DRDQMOKYRFJHIAO4LJ4HG66WA\">Spencer Charles, 37, of Brooklyn, New York, faces multiple charges including failure to stop for police, failure to signal, speeding and reckless driving, according to Massachusetts State Police. He is also charged with several violations related to improper passing, marked lanes, license plate issues, driving without insurance and operating with a suspended registration.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"CV5TEYIQ7FAEPJTEXILQ6B2HH4\">The pursuit began on the eastbound side of Interstate 90 just before 1 a.m. on Monday, after troopers saw Charles driving a lime green Alfa Romeo sedan without lights or license plates, police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"SNAHIYDC7RFZTC5DP2QDRI4624\">He was also reaching speeds up to 120 mph on the highway, police said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"QX6VDXIINVD53AM2BVVIQEIENM\">Charles did not stop when troopers tried to pull him over near mile marker 80 on I-90, police said, prompting a pursuit, but the officers eventually lost sight of him near mile marker 94. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RZXX6INBRBA5DNL3RG7SU7RV5I\">Minutes later, Charles was spotted again by troopers near mile marker 106 on the eastbound side of I-90, police said. He took an exit onto Interstate 495 south, then exited again into Hopkinton, when troopers were fully called off the pursuit. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"3PP376TXE5GUPDCAFBG7K4BYP4\">Then, at 1:50 a.m., Hopkinton police officers spotted the lime green car parked illegally \u2014 and without Charles \u2014 near 1 Downey St., state police said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"RGVBV6MC3FE5XKTNPDKWQJIEJY\">Charles was taken into custody about 30 minutes later on South Street, which runs parallel to Downey Street, by the Hopkinton Police Department. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"T4W4OTHIV5FKHHL5YLXTUDF74M\">He refused to give his name to the officers, but they found a key fob for the lime green car with him after he was detained. State police troopers also responded to the scene and found that the car\u2019s registration was revoked for insurance. <\/p>\n<p class=\"article__paragraph article__paragraph--left\" id=\"VUCM22Y4VBGGHC3JP2MDMXOVNI\">Charles was then brought to state police barracks to be charged and booked.
