{"id":41785,"date":"2025-07-05T22:08:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-05T22:08:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/41785\/"},"modified":"2025-07-05T22:08:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-05T22:08:11","slug":"brics-countries-set-to-criticize-u-s-tariffs","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/41785\/","title":{"rendered":"BRICS countries set to criticize U.S. tariffs"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">July 5 (UPI) &#8212; The so-called BRICS group of countries is reportedly set to issue a formal statement criticizing the United States current tariff situation when the group meets for a two-day summit in Brazil.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Brazil, India, Russia, China, South Africa and the other five countries that comprise the intergovernmental organization, are expected to adopt a position of &#8220;serious concern&#8221; regarding U.S. President Donald Trump&#8217;s enactment of so-called reciprocal tariffs, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2025-07-04\/brics-set-to-condemn-coercive-tariffs-draft-statement-shows?embedded-checkout=true\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:Bloomberg reports, citing;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">Bloomberg reports, citing<\/a> sources familiar with ongoing deliberations.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Leaders of the BRICS countries are in Rio de Janeiro for the <a href=\"https:\/\/infobrics.org\/en\/post\/51266\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:group&#039;s 17th summit;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">group&#8217;s 17th summit<\/a> which begins Sunday and is being hosted by Brazilian President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Brazil currently holds the BRICS chair position and counts the United States as its second-biggest trading partner after China.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">Earlier in the week, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/US\/2025\/07\/04\/trade-tariff-deadline-donald-trump-deals\/8311751641364\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:confirmed U.S. tariffs;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">confirmed U.S. tariffs<\/a> will begin July 9 when a 90-day pause is scheduled to end. Photo by Kent Nishimura\/UPI<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">After winning the election last year and before taking office, Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/US\/2024\/11\/30\/Trump-promises-100-tariffs-BRICS-nations-create-rival-currency\/5881732999940\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:said the group would;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">said the group would<\/a> &#8220;wave goodbye to America&#8221; if it created its own currency, adding he would also impose a 100% tariff in U.S. domestic markets if that scenario unfolded.<\/p>\n<p class=\"mb-4 text-lg md:leading-8 break-words\">In 2023, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.upi.com\/Top_News\/World-News\/2023\/08\/24\/safrica-brics-new-members\/9231692875215\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\" data-ylk=\"slk:BRICS formally invited;elm:context_link;itc:0;sec:content-canvas\" class=\"link \">BRICS formally invited<\/a> Saudi Arabia and Iran to join the organization.
