DALLAS – The idea of the San Antonio Spurs moving Heaven and Earth.to bring Cooper Flagg to the Alamo City to team with Victor Wembanyama?<\/p>\n

It makes all the sense \u2026 on Heaven and on Earth \u2026 for the Spurs.<\/p>\n

But ESPN\u2019s NBA Draft-time push for the No. 1 overall pick,\u00a0Duke superstar Flagg, to be moved by Dallas read then and reads now like some odd combination of na\u00efvet\u00e9 and trolling.<\/p>\n

ESPN’s insiders thought such a swap would be of great benefit to the Spurs \u2026 and they are darn right about that..<\/p>\n

But they left out any Mavs-related logic.<\/p>\n

The theoretically compelling offer to the Mavericks?<\/p>\n

ESPN’s Zach Kram suggested that the<\/a>\u00a0Mavs\u00a0receive the Spurs’ Nos. 2 and 14 overall picks in the draft, as well as the Atlanta Hawks’ 2027 first-rounder, and their 2030 first-round pick swap rights,<\/p>\n

So \u2026 multiple picks to lose a generational talent?<\/p>\n

Forget Cooper Flagg; didn\u2019t Dallas GM Nico Harrison just do that with the disastrous trade of Luka Don\u010di\u0107 to the Los Angeles Lakers? (But minus the multiple picks, of course.)<\/p>\n

Can you imagine the controversial spit-storm that would ensue if Nico did it all over again and after losing Doncic also lost Flagg?<\/p>\n

ESPN offered up details of other NBA trades over the years that compared to this trade suggestion \u2026 but they were missing the point.<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t Fantasy Basketball. In real life, no matter what would\u2019ve been good for the Spurs, Nico\u2019s Mavs not only wouldn\u2019t trade Cooper Flagg \u2026<\/p>\n
