A Syracuse television station is being disrupted by a planned change in its call letters<\/a> and channel position.<\/p>\n

CNY Central\u2019s WTVH CBS 5 changed its call letters on Monday, Dec. 1, becoming WKOF CBS 5. The TV station the move would be \u201cseamless\u201d for viewers who watch via cable, satellite or streaming services like YouTube TV<\/a>, Hulu + Live TV<\/a>, Sling<\/a>, and DirecTV<\/a> Stream.<\/p>\n

However, the transition hasn\u2019t been perfect for all viewers. CNY Central said<\/a> Monday afternoon that it was aware some viewers are having issues accessing the new WKOF signal. <\/p>\n

On Verizon FiOS, cable subscribers could see the correct picture, but the program guide was incorrect. A FiOS user told syracuse.com that he spent two hours on the phone with Verizon support and still couldn\u2019t access WKOF-TV.<\/p>\n

On Spectrum, customers were encouraged to tune to channel 2 or 1256, but many still reported seeing a black screen. One Spectrum customer told syracuse.com that they could only find CBS programming on channel 1211.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe owners of the station may be saying that it will be \u2018seamless\u2019 for cable customers, but that hasn\u2019t been the case, at least not for us,\u201d the Spectrum customer said.<\/p>\n

Other distributors appeared to be working, CNY Central said, but some program guides still did not show updated listings Monday afternoon.<\/p>\n

Over-the-air viewers who use an antenna can watch WKOF, but need to re-scan their channels to continue watching CBS in the Syracuse area. WTVH was previously available on Channel 5.1, which began airing Roar programming on Monday; local CBS programming has moved to digital channel 15.1.<\/p>\n

All distribution partners had been notified about the move weeks ago, according to CNY Central. The broadcaster said its engineering teams were working to fix the problems and update all program guides as quickly as possible.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused,\u201d CNY Central said in a statement.<\/p>\n

Updates will be posted on CNY Central\u2019s website<\/a>.<\/p>\n

CNY Central, which includes Syracuse TV stations NBC 3 (WSTM), CW 6 (WSTQ) and CBS 5, is operated by Sinclair Broadcast Group<\/a>. WTVH was Syracuse\u2019s first television station when it began broadcasting as WHEN-TV on Dec. 1, 1948.<\/p>\n

Sinclair did not say why its Syracuse CBS affiliate was changing its call letters. Another Sinclair-owned station in Nevada similarly moved its signal and changed its call letters from KRNV to NRXI<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n

Roar, owned by Sinclair, first launched in 2016 as TBD. The network airs a variety of TV shows like \u201cAmerica\u2019s Funniest Home Videos\u201d and \u201cSaturday Night Live\u201d re-runs.<\/p>\n
