{"id":41825,"date":"2025-07-05T22:28:11","date_gmt":"2025-07-05T22:28:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/41825\/"},"modified":"2025-07-05T22:28:11","modified_gmt":"2025-07-05T22:28:11","slug":"philadelphia-officials-dc33-resume-bargaining-on-day-5-of-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/41825\/","title":{"rendered":"Philadelphia officials, DC33 resume bargaining on Day 5 of strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>The union that represents more than 9,000 city workers said in a post on X that it is <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/afscme33\/status\/1941510243969904905\" rel=\"nofollow\">resuming contract talks<\/a> with Philadelphia officials as its <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/philadelphia-largest-union-first-strike-40-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">strike<\/a> continued for a fifth day.\n<\/p>\n<p>The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees District Council 33, which represents sanitation workers, city mechanics, 911 dispatchers and school crossing guards, announced the strike after talks stalled between both parties late Monday night.\n<\/p>\n<p>With household trash collection paused, <a href=\"https:\/\/billypenn.com\/2025\/07\/03\/philly-strike-afscme-district-council-33-updates-trash-emergency-services-libraries\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">bags of waste have piled up on the sidewalks<\/a> and at designated city collection sites.\n  <\/p>\n<p>Wages are the sticking point in the negotiations, DC33 leader Greg Boulware <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/philadelphia-largest-union-first-strike-40-years\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">said earlier this week.\u00a0<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe got people that work and repair the water mains and can\u2019t afford their water bill,\u201d he said. \u201cWe got people that repair the runways at the airport and can\u2019t afford a plane ticket. I don\u2019t want to be rich. We just want a comfort inside the city that we serve daily.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The average DC33 member <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/parker-city-workers-union-strike-news-conference-double-pay\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">makes $46,000 a year<\/a>.
