Rick Scott opposes Affordable Care Act subsidies, favors \u2018Trump Freedom\u2019 account"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"c-paragraph\">WASHINGTON \u2014 Congress returned to session on Monday with uncertainty about the enhanced Affordable Care Act premium subsidies, which expire on Dec. 31. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">On Nov. 20, Sen. Rick Scott released his proposal for the More Affordable Care Act, which includes direct payments to a Trump Freedom health savings account to create competition. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI will not support anything that doesn\u2019t fix the cost of healthcare. That is the problem,\u201d Scott said about efforts to extend the ACA subsidies. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">More than 4 million in Florida rely on the ACA subsidies. To end the shutdown, Senate Majority John Thune, R-S.D., offered a vote by mid-December.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cThere will be a vote on a bill that Democrats advance,\u201d Sen. Angus King, D-Maine, told CNN. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">There was Republican backlash after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/2025\/11\/25\/the-latest-white-house-circulates-a-plan-to-extend-obamacare-subsidies\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/2025\/11\/25\/the-latest-white-house-circulates-a-plan-to-extend-obamacare-subsidies\/\">White House signaled<\/a> that President Donald Trump was considering extending the ACA subsidies for two more years. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">In the House, Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa., was drafting a bipartisan proposal. It wasn\u2019t clear if he had the support of House Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cI support doing everything we can to try to keep health care costs down,\u201d Rep. Mario <a href=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/10\/07\/diaz-balart-i-support-doing-everything-we-can-to-try-to-keep-health-care-costs-down\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/www.local10.com\/news\/politics\/2025\/10\/07\/diaz-balart-i-support-doing-everything-we-can-to-try-to-keep-health-care-costs-down\/\">D\u00edaz-Balart said<\/a> during the federal government\u2019s shutdown. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz was worried that the open enrollment period had already started without a solution.<\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">\u201cPeople are having eye-popping sticker shock from their premiums,\u201d Wasserman Schultz said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">The Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonprofit based in California, estimates that without the ACA subsidies about 24 million Americans will see increases of more than $1,000 a month. <\/p>\n<p class=\"c-paragraph\">Sen.
