Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi and his Palme d\u2019Or winner It Was Just An Accident were the big winners: The film won Best International Feature, and Panahi took Best Director and Original Screenplay. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tSee the full winners list below.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIt was Anderson\u2019s first Gotham Award on his fourth career nomination. He also was up for Best Director for the pic about a\u00a0group of ex-revolutionaries whose archenemy resurfaces after 16 years. The film starring Leonardo DiCaprio, Sean Penn, Benecio Del Toro and others has crossed the $200 million threshold in worldwide box office. It came in with a record six nominations. \u201cI didn\u2019t expect this,\u201d Anderson said. \u201cThank you very much for enjoying this film, for rewarding this film. I had a great time making it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<strong>RELATED: <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/jafar-panahi-gotham-awards-remarks-best-original-screenplay-1236632123\/\" data-type=\"post\" data-id=\"1236632123\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Iran\u2019s Jafar Panahi Dedicates Gotham Award To Filmmakers \u201cDeprived Of The Right To See And Be Seen\u201d<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPanahi\u2019s prizes came hours after <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/12\/jafar-panahi-sentenced-one-year-prison-travel-ban-absentia-1236631954\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">he was convicted in absentia by Iran<\/a> and sentenced to one year in prison and two years of probation. \u201cThis award belongs to all people who worked for me on this film,\u201d he said onstage through an interpreter. \u201cI\u2019d like to dedicate this award to independent filmmakers around the world. \u2026 I hope that this dedication will be considered a small tribute to all filmmakers who have been deprived of the right to see and to be seen but continue to create and to exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA bit later, Panahi was back onstage to accept the Gotham for Best International Feature. It Was Just an Accident is <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/09\/france-oscars-it-was-just-an-accident-1236546783\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">France\u2019s entry for the International Feature Oscar<\/a> next year. Sop\u00e9 D\u00ecr\u00eds\u00f9 won Outstanding Lead Performance for My Father\u2019s Shadow after the pic\u2019s Akinola Davies Jr won Breakthrough Director. Davies accepted an absentee D\u00ecr\u00eds\u00f9. The semi-autobiographical film \u2014 which is the UK\u2019s official Oscar submission for International Feature \u2014 tells the story of two young brothers who explore Lagos with their estranged father (D\u00ecr\u00eds\u00f9) during the 1993 Nigerian election crisis. She wasn\u2019t at the ceremony to accept, so filmmaker Ryan Coogler accepted her statuette.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tPillion writer-director Harry Pillion took Best Adapted Screenplay \u2014 a first-time Gothams category \u2014 for the gay biker drama, which <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2024\/10\/alexander-skarsgard-harry-melling-a24-pillion-1236111266\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">A24 picked up<\/a> months ahead of its Cannes Film Festival premiere. Over the weekend, <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/11\/british-independent-film-award-winners-pillion-full-list-1236631292\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">the pic won Best Film<\/a> at the British Independent Film Awards. Last month the pic about independent journalists being declared \u201cforeign agents\u201d by Vladimir Putin\u2019s regime <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2025\/11\/my-undesirable-friends-indie-film-site-network-advocate-award-1236614829\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">won the Indie Film Site Network Advocate Award,<\/a> beating several top Oscar contenders.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAbou Sangar\u00e9 won the Breakthrough Performance prize for his role in Souleymane\u2019s Story from Kino Lorber, yet another film that played at Cannes. Some 40 features and 25 performances in 10 categories were nominated.
