Series creator and star Quinta Brunson<\/a> indicated that \u201cAbbott Elementary<\/a>\u201d may soon come to a close, just days ahead of the cast\u2019s highly anticipated appearance<\/a> on \u201cIt\u2019s Always Sunny in Philadelphia\u201d (airing July 9). \u201cAbbott Elementary\u201d is set to begin its fifth season<\/a> in the fall, and its first four outings have not only been a ratings hit for ABC but raked in scores of award nominations, a rarity for any network series in 2025.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe are so fortunate and blessed to be on a network TV<\/a> show for five seasons, and for people to still be fans,\u201d the Emmy-winning<\/a> actress and writer told Bustle<\/a>. \u201cThat being said, I have cast members who would love to pursue other projects, and our show is very time-consuming. We shoot about seven months out of the year. That can stop people from being able to do a lot of other things.\u201d<\/p>\n

The other cast members \u2014\u00a0which include Sheryl Lee Ralph, Tyler James Williams, Janelle James, Lisa Ann Walter, Williams Stanford Davis, and Chris Perfetti \u2014\u00a0aren\u2019t the only ones looking to explore other projects. Brunson said that she\u2019s \u201cinterested in playing against type.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI think that\u2019s any actor\u2019s dream. Right now my type is \u2018Janine\u2019 and \u2018teacher.\u2019 I\u2019m looking forward to moving away from that a little bit,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n

Brunson added that she\u2019s receiving scripts right now and \u201cwaiting for that moment that feels like, \u2018Oh man, this is exactly what I\u2019ve been looking for.\u201d She also said that she wanted to use the success of \u201cAbbott Elementary\u201d to help \u201cget other people\u2019s projects off the ground.\u201d<\/p>\n

Last month at IndieWire and Disney\u2019s FYC Pass the Remote panel series, Brunson described<\/a> the amount of passion the writers work to pour into each episode, no matter how difficult it can be to deliver 22 episodes a season.<\/p>\n

\u201cBut I cannot tell you how hard it is to not make absolute garbage,\u201d she said. \u201cYou start going [into Episode] 22 like \u2018Honestly, I could phone it in.\u2019 We\u2019ve seen other shows do it. We don\u2019t want to do that. We want to continue to make good television. We want every episode to be a surprise.
