{"id":419017,"date":"2025-12-02T07:48:12","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T07:48:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/419017\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T07:48:12","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T07:48:12","slug":"penn-medicine-researchers-to-present-blood-cancer-hematology-research-at-national-conference","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/419017\/","title":{"rendered":"Penn Medicine researchers to present blood cancer, hematology research at national conference"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Researchers from the Perelman School of Medicine and Penn Medicine&#8217;s Abramson Cancer Center will present blood cancer and hematology research at the American Society of Hematology\u2019s Annual Meeting &amp; Exposition from Dec. 6-9.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennmedicine.org\/news\/penn-medicine-at-the-2025-ash-annual-meeting\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">event<\/a>, which will be held in Orlando, Fla., will feature the researchers&#8217; presentation on the newest data in those fields. During the convention, three Penn Med researchers will also be recognized with awards and elected positions at ASH.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nancy Speck, the John W. Eckman Professor in Medical Science II, will also receive the 2025 E. Donnall Thomas Lecture and Prize for her \u201cpivotal work\u201d in the processes of leukemia development and blood cell production.<\/p>\n<p>The prize, named after Nobel Prize laureate and past ASH president E. Donnall Thomas, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hematology.org\/awards\/honorific\/e-donnall-thomas-lecture-and-prize\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">seeks to<\/a> \u201crecognize pioneering research achievements in hematology that have represented a paradigm shift or significant discovery in the field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Speck\u2019s research has provided critical knowledge to help us understand how certain blood cancers and other blood disorders develop,\u201d Robert Vonderheide, the director of the Abramson Cancer Center, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennmedicine.org\/news\/nancy-speck-honored-for-pioneering-research-in-hematology\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">wrote<\/a> in the Penn Med award announcement in June. \u201cWe are glad to have such a brilliant hematology researcher on our team and are pleased to see her recognized with one of the highest honors from ASH.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Alison Wakoff Loren, the C. Willard Robinson Professor of Hematology-Oncology and chief of Penn Med&#8217;s division of hematology and oncology, was elected to serve as ASH&#8217;s incoming vice president.
