CHICAGO (WLS) — Gov. JB Pritzker signed a bill Tuesday morning to strengthen vaccine access in Illinois after recent decisions from the Trump administration.<\/p>\n

“It is vitally important that Illinois families can get trusted advice about vaccines, guided by experts and established research. With this new law, we will be able to respond swiftly to any dangerous or anti-science actions at the federal level – and ensure Illinoisans stay protected. More affordable and accessible health care for all Illinoisans prevents illness and saves lives,” Pritzker said.<\/p>\n

Illinois pharmacists will be able to administer influenza and COVID-19 vaccines to children ages 3 to 7 without a prescription, thanks to the new law.<\/p>\n

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention<\/a>‘s vaccine advisory committee in September voted to abandon its recommendation for the COVID-19 vaccine, with the committee unanimously voting to recommend that Americans get the shot “based on individual-based decision-making,” meaning it’s a personal choice.<\/p>\n
