{"id":420557,"date":"2025-12-02T23:38:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-02T23:38:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/420557\/"},"modified":"2025-12-02T23:38:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-02T23:38:13","slug":"houston-police-k-9-injured-after-being-choked-by-squatter-who-refused-to-leave-apartment","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/420557\/","title":{"rendered":"Houston police K-9 injured after being choked by squatter who refused to leave apartment"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A Houston Police Department K-9 is recovering after being choked to the point of unconsciousness, according to court records, by a man who was homeless and refused to leave an apartment unit near NRG Park.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Police said they got called to the apartment complex on Holly Hall Street on Sunday for a report of a homeless man in a vacant unit refusing to leave.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\"><b>SEE ALSO: <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.click2houston.com\/news\/local\/2025\/12\/02\/three-men-charged-with-capital-murder-in-2023-west-houston-apartment-shooting\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>Three men charged with capital murder in 2023 West Houston apartment shooting<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">When they arrived, they found 50-year-old Talmadge Blount in the unit, who continued refusing officers\u2019 verbal commands to leave. <\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">A K-9 was sent in, and Blount allegedly choked the K9, which hasn\u2019t been identified, to the point of unconsciousness, according to court records.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Blount had to be tased to stop choking the K-9, records show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Blount was charged with interference with a police service animal and given a $40,000 bond, records show. He remains in jail.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">An HPD spokesperson said the K9 is expected to make a full recovery.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Blount has several previous convictions, records show, for charges including assault of a public servant, terroristic threat against a public servant, and attempted assault of a peace officer.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">KPRC 2 is working to obtain more information on the incident.<\/p>\n<p class=\"dist__Box-sc-1fnzlkn-0 dist__TextBase-sc-1fnzlkn-3 bYFsJw cuqaEv article-text\">Earlier this year, another law enforcement K-9, named Rocky, was shot in the face by a suspect who was hiding from officials with the U.S. Marshals Office.
