A car has crashed off a bridge and onto train tracks causing lengthy delays for commuters in the Blue Mountains.<\/p>\n
The car had veered off Great Western Highway at Blaxland before falling from a bridge and striking overhead wires and landing on its roof about 6am on Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The sole driver of the car, a man in his 20s, escaped with minor injuries.<\/p>\n
Fire and Rescue New South Wales (FRNSW) said removing the vehicle would be a “complex operation” due to the 1,500-volt live electrical currents in the overhead powerlines.<\/p>\n
All trains have been cancelled between Springwood and Emu Plains in both directions.<\/p>\n
No Blue Mountain Train services are running from Blacktown, Parramatta or Strathfield.<\/p>\n
NSW Trainlink West posted on social media that buses are replacing trains between Springwood and Emu Plains.<\/p>\n
“The incident is expected to continue throughout the day, including replacement buses, so please allow extra travel time,” NSW Trainlink West said.\u00a0<\/p>\n
FRNSW Superintendent Adam Dewberry said the overhead wires have been shut off for the retrieval of the vehicle and that the safety of emergency workers was the priority.<\/p>\n
“Anytime you’re going onto the rail corridor it is hard, it’s dangerous,” Superintendent Dewberry said.<\/p>\n
“You can’t get on it until you’re sure, confirmed, the trains have been stopped.”<\/p>\n
