Saraland (Ala.) wide receiver DeShawn Spencer<\/a><\/strong> has flipped his commitment from Duke to Auburn.<\/p>\n

Spencer, who has scored 26 touchdowns as a senior, announced his decision on Tuesday. His decision comes after an official visit to Auburn for the Iron Bowl.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe guys didn\u2019t get a win, but just the brotherhood that they had to continue striving and carrying on and taking on adversity just makes me want to be a part of this program,\u201d Spencer said. \u201cThat really stood out to me. Just how close the guys are and how they always have each other\u2019s backs.\u201d<\/p>\n

The atmosphere inside Jordan-Hare Stadium also played a role.<\/p>\n

\u201cI have been here countless times and this experience is an experience you can\u2019t get anywhere else,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Spencer committed to Auburn even before Sunday morning\u2019s announcement that Alex Golesh would be the next head coach. <\/p>\n

\u201cWhen picking a college, you have to pick the school,\u201d Spencer said. \u201cYou have to really like the school for the school. Plus, it\u2019s in state and not too far from my parents. That\u2019s so special to me. Being able to put on for my home state is a dream that I had ever since I was a little kid. Being actually able to live out that dream is something I don\u2019t take for granted.\u201d<\/p>\n

Golesh being named Auburn\u2019s head coach only helped make his decision easier. Spencer was heavily recruited by Golesh at USF.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was great,\u201d he said of Golesh being hired at Auburn. \u201c100 percent, no doubt in my mind that he can turn this whole thing around. I\u2019m excited I get to be a part of what he is building at Auburn.\u201d<\/p>\n

Spencer\u2019s message to Auburn fans?<\/p>\n

\u201cYa\u2019ll are getting a dog,\u201d he said. \u201cI\u2019m ready to work.\u201d<\/p>\n

This season as a senior, Spencer has 84 receptions for 1,584 yards and 21 touchdowns. He also has 458 yards rushing and five scores.<\/p>\n
