{"id":421697,"date":"2025-12-03T11:35:25","date_gmt":"2025-12-03T11:35:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/421697\/"},"modified":"2025-12-03T11:35:25","modified_gmt":"2025-12-03T11:35:25","slug":"why-many-philadelphia-doctors-use-ai-to-record-patient-visits","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/421697\/","title":{"rendered":"Why many Philadelphia doctors use AI to record patient visits"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After the University of California San Francisco\u2019s health system rolled out similar technology for their doctors, the response has been \u201cecstatic,\u201d said Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/medicine.ucsf.edu\/people\/robert-wachter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Robert Wachter<\/a>, chair of the department of medicine and author of the upcoming book, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.penguinrandomhouse.com\/books\/776443\/a-giant-leap-by-robert-wachter-md\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cA Giant Leap: How AI is Transforming Healthcare and What That Means for Our Future<\/a>.\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe comments are unlike anything I\u2019ve seen in technology and health care where people usually complain about the technology,\u201d he said. \u201cThe comments are, \u2018I was thinking about retiring until this came out.&#8217;\u201d\n<\/p>\n<p>The health systems say the technology will become a normal part of doctors\u2019 offices in the future.\n<\/p>\n<p>However, the tools can still make mistakes, and some doctors have mixed feelings about them.\n  <\/p>\n<p>Researchers at Penn Medicine recently <a href=\"https:\/\/jamanetwork.com\/journals\/jamanetworkopen\/fullarticle\/2830383\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">published a journal article<\/a> describing how 46 doctors across 17 specialties felt about the AI tool after using it for a few weeks late last year. When the researchers asked the doctors whether they would recommend it to their colleagues, half the group said yes, whereas the other half said no. (Emma Lee\/WHYY)\n<\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the case for Dr. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pennmedicine.org\/providers\/corinne-rhodes\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Corinne Rhodes<\/a>, a primary care physician at Penn Medicine. She used the AI listening program in a recent patient visit.\n<\/p>\n<p>She explained that she\u2019s developed a system of writing concise notes after years of experience, and now needs to heavily edit parts of what the AI generates for her.
