Could the San Diego Padres be a fit for the five-time NBA Champion?<\/p>\n
According to a report from the San Francisco Chronicle Tuesday night an NBA source said the 69-year-old “is always interested in looking into new opportunities” and purchasing the Padres may be an opportunity he could explore.<\/p>\n
Lacob owns the Warriors as well as the WNBA’s Golden State Valkyries. Stephen Curry and the Warriors have won four titles under Lacob’s guidance. He also owned the Celtics when they claimed the Larry O’Brien Trophy in 2008.<\/p>\n
According to the report Lacob has pursued MLB teams in the past. He put forth a failed bid for the A’s two decades ago, and expressed interest in the Angels in 2022.<\/p>\n
In 2023 he was asked about possibly purchasing the Athletics.<\/p>\n
“They’re not a team that’s for sale. If they were, sure we’d be interested,” Lacob said. “We’d be fools not to. It’d be a potentially great opportunity, but they’re not.”<\/p>\n
According to Forbes Lacob is worth $2.3 billion.<\/p>\n
His track record would suggest that he’d be a fitting successor to the Seidler family. Beginning under Peter Seidler’s guidance the Padres became an aggressive spender and consistent winner.<\/p>\n
Lacob told the Point Forward Podcast in 2022, “I’m about only one thing the rest of my life and that’s winning and winning championships. I’m maniacal, it’s all I care about.
