Ole Miss legend Eli Manning couldn\u2019t help but respond to new LSU head coach Lane Kiffin\u2019s claim that Rebels fans tried to run him off the road<\/a> as he left Mississippi for Baton Rouge on Sunday.<\/p>\n

\u201cOops!\u201d Manning, 44, joked in a tweet<\/a> on X, including a news headline about the alleged incident.<\/p>\n

Before his illustrious career with the Giants, Manning was a high-profile quarterback at Ole Miss from 2000-03, and his No. 10 jersey was retired by the program. <\/p>\n

His father, former NFL quarterback Archie Manning, had a historic career with the Rebels from 1968-70.<\/p>\n

Manning weighed in on Kiffin\u2019s job saga<\/a> after the coach bolted from Ole Miss to the SEC rival LSU right before the 11-1 Rebels make a run in the College Football Playoff.<\/p>\n

During his introductory press conference Monday, Kiffin reacted to Rebels fans booing him as he left Oxford \u2014 and alleged some tried to run him and his 16-year-old son, Knox, off the road as they headed to the airport.<\/a><\/p>\n

\u201cIt was very hard and it was really challenging,\u201d Kiffin\u00a0said\u00a0<\/a>at Tiger Stadium. \u201cIt\u2019s the passion of the SEC. I understand that. I don\u2019t get emotional with it\u2026<\/p>\n

\u201c\u2026 That airport scene, and Knox and I driving and people trying to run us off the road, man, and the things they said to us.<\/p>\n

\u201cAnd then we got here [to Baton Rouge], and we had been here for six minutes [and fans are saying], \u2018We love you, Coach. You\u2019re the best ever.\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s the SEC, I\u2019ve been around long enough to know that, and it\u2019s just the passion of the SEC.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m not upset at those reactions by fans, by people. I think that people get really upset when you leave somewhere because they feel hurt because you\u2019re doing a really good job.\u201d <\/p>\n

Kiffin announced he was taking his talents to Baton Rouge in a social media post on Sunday, following the Rebels\u2019 38-19 Egg Bowl victory over Mississippi State on Friday.<\/p>\n

He said it was a family decision to leave Ole Miss after six historic seasons. <\/p>\n

Kiffin agreed<\/a> to a seven-year contract with LSU that will pay him $13 million annually.<\/p>\n

The Tigers targeted Kiffin in their coach search after firing Brian Kelly in October.<\/p>\n
