{"id":42247,"date":"2025-07-06T02:17:09","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T02:17:09","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/42247\/"},"modified":"2025-07-06T02:17:09","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T02:17:09","slug":"new-vinyl-club-at-free-library-hits-the-right-tune-in-community","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/42247\/","title":{"rendered":"New vinyl club at Free Library hits the right tune in community"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>From Philly and the Pa. suburbs to South Jersey and Delaware, what would you like WHYY News to cover? <a href=\"#Section1\">Let us know!<\/a>\n<\/p>\n<p>It was a packed room at the music department of the Free Library of Philadelphia\u2019s Vine Street Main Branch on the last Wednesday in June, as music lovers of all ages came together to celebrate their love of vinyl and the sound of a good record.\n<\/p>\n<p>Every last Wednesday of the month, attendees gather together to share their love for vinyl around a themed listening session. <a href=\"https:\/\/libwww.freelibrary.org\/calendar\/event\/151713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">June\u2019s theme honored African American Music Appreciation Month,<\/a> in recognition of Black Music Month. Guests are invited to bring records from their own collections or enjoy a librarian-curated journey through the library\u2019s vinyl archive.\n<\/p>\n<p>Jane Lippman, a librarian at the Vine Street branch, said the idea for the club came from seeing other successful programming at the library.\n  <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe didn\u2019t have that here in music, but I know music connects people,\u201d Lippman said. \u201cI was dipping my toes in the water to see if people were interested, and we\u2019ve been blown away by the positive reception.\u201d<br \/>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-large wp-image-707244\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/free_library_philadelphia_vinyl_wednesdays2_07042025-1024x768.jpg\" alt=\"A vinyl record player sits on a table at the Free Library of Philadelphia\" width=\"640\" height=\"480\"  \/>A record player in the Free Library\u2019s music department, used in the class to play vinyls. (Eric Nixon\/WHYY)\n<\/p>\n<p>The club currently runs from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m., but Lippman said if interest continues to grow, they may extend the sessions to give more people time to share.\n<\/p>\n<p>Viviana M, who requested that WHYY not use her full name, heard about the vinyl club through the Wooder Ice<a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DLTETFRRVIU\/?igsh=YTI4Z2d3MW1wemdr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"> Instagram page<\/a> and brought the vinyl copy of the \u201cBeverly Hills Cop\u201d soundtrack to the session.
