He previously won adapted screenplay for \u201cInherent Vice\u201d (2014), original screenplay for \u201cPhantom Thread\u201d (2017) and directing for \u201cLicorice Pizza\u201d (2021). DiCaprio earned his third NBR acting prize, following supporting actor trophies for \u201cWhat\u2019s Eating Gilbert Grape\u201d (1993) and \u201cDjango Unchained\u201d (2012).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tRose Byrne took best actress for A24\u2019s \u201cIf I Had Legs I\u2019d Kick You\u201d after winning the New York Film Critics Circle award Tuesday. Inga Ibsdotter Lilleaas claimed best supporting actress for Neon\u2019s \u201cSentimental Value\u201d in her first major awards recognition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tWarner Bros. dominated the NBR winners with \u201cOne Battle After Another\u2019s\u201d five trophies, plus Ryan Coogler\u2019s \u201cSinners\u201d winning original screenplay and Autumn Durald Arkapaw\u2019s cinematography prize. \u201cSinners\u201d also made the top 10 films list.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNetflix had a strong showing with \u201cTrain Dreams\u201d winning adapted screenplay for Clint Bentley and Greg Kwedar while also landing in the top 10 alongside Guillermo del Toro\u2019s \u201cFrankenstein.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOther notable inclusions were Universal\u2019s \u201cWicked: For Good\u201d and Searchlight\u2019s \u201cRental Family\u201d from director Hikari, both making the top 10 films.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNotable omissions included Focus Features\u2019 \u201cHamnet\u201d from Chloe Zhao, which failed to crack the top 10, alongside Neon\u2019s South Korean black comedy \u201cNo Other Choice\u201d from Park Chan-wook. Richard Linklater\u2019s \u201cBlue Moon\u201d and Bradley Cooper\u2019s \u201cIs This Thing On?\u201d were also shut out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tLast year proved particularly rough for NBR\u2019s predictive power. Of its major winners, only Kieran Culkin for \u201cA Real Pain\u201d won the Oscar. Best film winner \u201cWicked\u201d and adapted screenplay winner \u201cSing Sing\u201d secured nominations, but director Jon M. Chu, Daniel Craig for \u201cQueer,\u201d Nicole Kidman for \u201cBabygirl,\u201d Elle Fanning for \u201cA Complete Unknown\u201d and original screenplay \u201cHard Truths\u201d failed to earn Academy recognition. Notably, eventual best actress winner Mikey Madison for \u201cAnora\u201d was named breakthrough performance.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tOver 40 years, most NBR best film winners have gone on to earn at least an Oscar nomination for best picture \u2014 exceptions include \u201cGods and Monsters\u201d (1998), \u201cQuills\u201d (2000) and \u201cA Most Violent Year\u201d (2014). The 1980s included two notable misses: \u201cEmpire of the Sun\u201d (1987) and \u201cBetrayal\u201d (1983), the latter tying with \u201cTerms of Endearment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tSince the Academy expanded the best picture lineup in 2009, NBR and the <a href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/t\/oscars\/\" id=\"auto-tag_oscars\" data-tag=\"oscars\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oscars<\/a> have intersected only once with \u201cGreen Book\u201d (2018).<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto
