At least four girls from a Christian summer camp in Texas\u00a0were killed\u00a0and\u00a023 were\u00a0missing\u00a0after catastrophic flash flooding tore through\u00a0the region Friday, devastating the sprawling, 99-year-old Camp Mystic<\/a>, which has two campuses perched along the Guadalupe River<\/a> in the San Antonio suburb of Hunt.<\/p>\n

The raging river rose\u00a0more than 26 feet in just 45 minutes<\/a>,\u00a0the National Weather Service reported, a level of flooding the area hasn\u2019t seen since 1987.<\/p>\n

While most of the girls at the camp, who ranged in age from 7 to 17, were evacuated, some could not be saved. In all, 43 people were killed by flooding <\/a>in the region, including 15 children.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Camp Mystic, a Christian girls\u2019 camp, was evacuated Thursday night into Friday, but some girls were left behind and are not missing, officials said. KSATtv<\/p>\n

Camp Mystic\u00a0officials\u00a0told\u00a0parents that if they haven\u2019t been directly contacted to assume their daughters are accounted for and safe, officials\u00a0cautioned parents not to assume\u00a0the worst.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat does not mean they\u2019ve been lost. They could be in a tree. They could be out of communication,\u201d Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick said at an initial\u00a0news\u00a0conference. \u201cWe\u2019re praying for all those missing to be found alive.\u201d<\/p>\n
