Although City aren’t playing at their best they are picking up results so that is a positive to take from Manchester City’s past two matches.

Manchester City are currently doing what they have to do to pick up three points.

As of right now, Pep Guardiola’s side is simply doing what they have to do to pick up three points. The strength of this Manchester City side is in attack. They have scored eight goals in their past two matches. Those goals have been needed as they have conceded six goals against Leeds and Fulham combined. Going forward, City have been lethal. Although against Fulham Erling Haaland hit the post twice so they could have scored seven at Craven Cottage. Fortunately, City have been ruthless in front of goal their deficiencies have proved costly at the back.

Pep Guardiola’s side has been routinely cut through at the back. Leeds and Fulham have had success bypassing Manchester City’s midfield and cutting through City’s defence. Errors have plagued City at the back and although Fulham scored some absolutely cracking goals, City cannot afford to concede so many goals. They have conceded ten goals in their past four matches and that simply isn’t sustainable.

The one major positive besides the fact that Manchester City are picking up precious points is that there is plenty of scope for improvement in Pep Guardiola’s side. That is the overwhelming positive to take from City’s past two matches.

There is plenty of scope for improvement in Pep Guardiola’s side.

Speaking after his team’s win over Fulham, Pep Guardiola said that his team must improve. The Manchester City manager also said that his team will improve. He told the media: “What can I say? Improve, and there were many good things, and the bad things?”

“We’ll improve.”

Manchester City are simply doing what needs to be done to pick up results currently. Their past two performances haven’t been up to the standards that are expected of a Pep Guardiola side. City have been picking up points, so that is something to take from two games that have been pulsating affairs. If Manchester City’s improvement comes and they continue to learn how to pick up results when they aren’t playing well it could set them up for a charge later this season. But first this City side must improve and fix the obvious holes in their play before they prove to be too costly.

Manchester City have won their past two Premier League matches against Leeds United and Fulham.
