The scientists observed how the eddies influenced the electric field, critical information for the reaction, per the release.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The team discovered that when the strength of the larger-scale turbulence suddenly decreased, that of the smaller-scale turbulence conversely increased,&#8221; the release continued.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s a &#8220;world-first discovery&#8221; via experimental observation about how the eddies interact with each other and the electric field. Next up is accelerating theoretical models to limit the impact on the reaction, the experts said.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Nuclear energy is already contributing about 20% of America&#8217;s electricity, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/tools\/faqs\/faq.php?id=427&amp;t=3\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according<\/a> to government data. But it&#8217;s fueled by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.energy.gov\/ne\/articles\/fission-and-fusion-what-difference\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">fission<\/a> reactions, which split atoms instead of combining them like fusion.
