{"id":423166,"date":"2025-12-04T02:51:25","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T02:51:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/423166\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T02:51:25","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T02:51:25","slug":"revolving-ceo-door-at-alberta-health-services-continues-as-andre-tremblay-replaced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/423166\/","title":{"rendered":"Revolving CEO door at Alberta Health Services continues as Andre Tremblay replaced"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After being replaced in the health ministry, <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/andre-tremblay\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Andre Tremblay<\/a> is also no longer the head of <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/tag\/alberta-health-services\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alberta Health Services<\/a> \u2014 a role he took on less than a year ago when the previous AHS CEO was fired while looking into allegations of private health-care contract corruption.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/06\/70c8fc80.png\" alt=\"\" style=\"position:absolute;width:1px;height:1px\" referrerpolicy=\"no-referrer-when-downgrade\"\/><\/p>\n<p>Tremblay is on a leave of absence from his role as CEO and official administrator, AHS confirmed Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>A different member of the AHS executive team has been promoted to lead the province\u2019s front-line health agency by Matt Jones, Minister of Hospital and Surgical Health Services.<\/p>\n<p>Erin O\u2019Neill, senior vice-president of finance and shared services, is now the chair and CEO of AHS, Provincial Health Corporation, on an interim basis.<\/p>\n<p>AHS said O\u2019Neill has 20 years of experience in emergency management operations and government administration, including five years at Alberta Health. She has served as the assistant deputy minister of primary health care.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>O\u2019Neill served as the AHS executive director of research and innovation, where she led the project management office for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.albertahealthservices.ca\/aop\/Page13999.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alberta Surgical Initiative,<\/a>\u00a0which aims to increase capacity to reduce surgery wait times.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAHS is confident that Ms. O\u2019Neill\u2019s leadership will help deliver on its core mandate of providing high-quality, hospital-based services to Albertans across the province,\u201d a statement said.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" class=\"c-video__image\" alt=\"Click to play minister for several ministries under former premier Jason Kenney\u2019s government and in 2023, was made deputy minister of health by Premier Danielle Smith.\u00a0That same year, he was appointed to the board of AHS.<\/p>\n<p>This past January, Tremblay became the interim AHS president and CEO after that role\u2019s predecessor, Athana Mentzelopoulos, was fired.<\/p>\n<p>\t\t\t\t\t<img entire AHS board of directors was dismissed soon after that, and Tremblay was appointed official administrator to oversee all remaining activities to transition AHS to its role as a service delivery href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/11017398\/former-ahs-ceo-provincial-government-lawsuit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">alleges in a lawsuit she was wrongfully dismissed<\/a> by Tremblay from her job for looking into questionable contracts pushed by government officials as high up as the premier\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>She alleges she faced political pressure, including from the premier\u2019s then-chief of staff, Marshall Smith, to sign off on surgery deals despite outstanding questions surrounding excessive costs and who was benefiting.<\/p>\n<p>Mentzelopoulos <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/10155684\/athana-mentzelopoulos-alberta-health-services\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">was appointed CEO in December 2023<\/a> amid a time of drastic change at AHS and a revolving door of leaders.<\/p>\n<p>In April 2022, previous CEO <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/8733897\/dr-verna-yiu-leaving-alberta-health-services-as-president-and-ceo\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Verna Yiu \u2014 who\u2019d held the CEO position since May 2016\u00a0 \u2014 was dismissed<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mauro Chies was brought on as interim leader, and in March 2023 the interim title removed\u00a0 \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/globalnews.ca\/news\/10097298\/alberta-health-services-executive-team\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">only to be replaced eight months later amid an AHS executive team shakeup<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>In November 2023, Sean Chilton, vice-president and chief operating officer of clinical operations and information technology, was named acting president and CEO.<\/p>\n<p>A month later, Mentzelopoulos was hired, only to be fired 13 months into a four-year contract.<\/p>\n<p>Statements of defences by AHS and Minister of Primary and Preventative Health Services Adriana LaGrange claimed Mentzelopoulos was failing badly in her mandate to downgrade the health authority from its role as the provincewide leader of frontline health accuses Alberta Health Services staff of blocking changes\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/p>\n<p>At the time, Smith said the government is setting up a \u201clegal conflicts wall\u201d to separate the ongoing work of those named in the allegations, including Tremblay and LaGrange.<\/p>\n<p>Story continues below advertisement<\/p>\n<p>That ongoing work included reducing AHS to a hospital services provider under one of four new governing agencies that report to government cabinet.<\/p>\n<p>Since the matter became public, the RCMP launched an investigation into AHS.
