{"id":423235,"date":"2025-12-04T03:37:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T03:37:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/423235\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T03:37:23","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T03:37:23","slug":"donald-trump-pardons-entertainment-executive-tim-leiweke","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/423235\/","title":{"rendered":"Donald Trump Pardons Entertainment Executive Tim Leiweke"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" id=\"auto-tag_donald-trump\" data-tag=\"donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> granted <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/tim-leiweke\/\" id=\"auto-tag_tim-leiweke\" data-tag=\"tim-leiweke\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Tim Leiweke<\/a> a pardon, just five months after the administration\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/justice-department\/\" id=\"auto-tag_justice-department\" data-tag=\"justice-department\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Justice Department<\/a> charged the live entertainment executive in a scheme to rig the bidding process for a public arena in Texas.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tThe pardon was signed by the president on Tuesday. <\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn July, Leiweke, a longtime executive in live sports and entertainment who once ran AEG, was charged with a violation of Section 1 of the Sherman Antitrust Act. It carries a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a $1 million fine.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAccording to the indictment brought by the DOJ\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/antitrust-division\/\" id=\"auto-tag_antitrust-division\" data-tag=\"antitrust-division\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antitrust Division<\/a>, starting in 2018, Leiweke, by then CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/tag\/oak-view-group\/\" id=\"auto-tag_oak-view-group\" data-tag=\"oak-view-group\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Oak View Group<\/a>, orchestrated an effort to get a rival to stand down on a bid for the arena contract in exchange for gaining subcontracts. The arena, the Moody Center at the University of Texas at Austin, opened in 2022.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAt the time, OVG has agreed to pay $15 million in penalties, while Legends Hospitality has agreed to pay $1.5 million, in connection with their conduct alleged in the indictment, the Justice Department said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tIn a statement, Leiweke said, \u201cI do not have the words to adequately convey my profound gratitude to President Trump. This has been a long and difficult journey for my wife, my daughter, and me. The president has given us a new lease on life with which we will be grateful and good stewards.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tHis attorney, David Gerger, said, \u201cThis is the right result, and we are happy for our client and his family.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tA spokesperson for Leiweke said in July that he did \u201cnothing wrong and will vigorously defend himself and his well-deserved reputation for fairness and integrity. The Antitrust Division\u2019s allegations are wrong on the law and the facts, and the case should never have been brought.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAccording to CNN, which first reported on the pardon, Leiweke was represented in his appeal for clemency by Trey Gowdy, the former congressman who is the host of a Sunday evening Fox News show.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tLeiweke was the former CEO of Anschutz Entertainment Group, and later became the <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2013\/04\/tim-leiweke-to-run-maple-leafs-sports-company-484560\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CEO of Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment<\/a>. He and Irving Azoff\u2019s Azoff ASG Entertainment launched Oak View Group in 2015.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAt the time of the indictment, Oak View Group announced that Leiweke would leave his role as CEO and will become vice chairman of the board of directors, and would remain a shareholder of the company. Oak View Group named Chris Granger as permanent CEO on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto     \">\n\tAn OVG spokesperson said, \u201cWe are happy for Tim that he can now put this matter behind him.
