A former White House staffer clashed with a host of The View in tense scenes on CNN<\/a> fueled by Donald Trump\u2019s drug boat strikes in Venezuela<\/a>.<\/p>\n

NewsNight host Abby Phillip was forced to interject after Harrison Fields, who was Trump\u2019s White House principal deputy press secretary until August, locked horns with fellow panelist Ana Navarro, who is also on The View.<\/p>\n

At one point during their fiery exchange, Nicaraguan-born Navarro accused Fields of \u201cgaslighting\u201d her as they sparred over the U.S. Navy\u2019s strikes<\/a> on boats off the coast of Venezuela.<\/p>\n

The Trump administration is mired in controversy over a reported second \u201ckill them all\u201d<\/a> strike on an alleged Venezuelan \u201cnarco-terrorist\u201d boat in the Caribbean on Sept. 2, killing two people who survived the initial strike.<\/p>\n

Fields, who now works at the all-Republican lobbying firm CGCN Group, insisted that the Navy was \u201cprotecting American interests.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWhat is the American interest?\u201d Navarro hit back. \u201cOil?\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cDrugs pouring into this country and killing us,\u201d Fields retorted.<\/p>\n

That started an intense debate between the pair over the actual source of fentanyl coming into America, with Navarro suggesting it was more likely to come from Mexico than Venezuela.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhy aren\u2019t you bombing Mexico?\u201d she asked Fields.<\/p>\n

\u201cThat\u2019s a ridiculous argument,\u201d Fields snapped. He then said at Navarro, \u201cThe president you advocated for for four years, Joseph R. Biden, allowed our border to be open… \u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cYou\u2019re gaslighting me,\u201d Navarro said to Fields, cutting him off.<\/p>\n

They continued to argue, with Navarro claiming \u201cno fentanyl comes from Venezuela,\u201d and Fields stating \u201ctell that to the fentanyl families who have died.\u201d<\/p>\n

Navarro pointed at Fields and said, \u201cYou are wrong, and you are lying to the American people.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cWell, your day job is The View,\u201d Fields said to Navarro, who instantly clapped back to him, \u201cand you have no day job.\u201d<\/p>\n

Jaime Harrison, the former chair of the Democratic Party, who was also on Wednesday\u2019s panel, posted from the set, stating on X<\/a>, \u201cI\u2019m sitting at the table right now and still feel the heat from that clapback!\u201d<\/p>\n

Host Abby Phillip interrupted the feuding pair to take Fields to task over what she called his Republican \u201ctalking points.\u201d<\/p>\n

Telling Fields to his face that he was \u201cwrong\u201d and had \u201cmixed up a whole bunch of stuff\u201d in his argument defending the bombing of boats in the Caribbean, she asked him directly where fentanyl comes from.<\/p>\n

Fields kept blaming the Democrats for allowing fentanyl to come into America, without directly answering the question, only saying, \u201cIt comes from many places.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThere are factual issues with your assertion that the fentanyl crisis is being caused by Venezuela,\u201d Phillip told Fields, \u201cwhen we know for a fact that that is not the case.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fields claimed the Trump administration had been \u201ctransparent\u201d before Phillip cut him off to ask, \u201cI\u2019m just curious about whether you\u2019re willing to acknowledge facts or not, or if you\u2019re just more committed to your talking points?\u201d<\/p>\n

When the former Trump official was on NewsNight<\/a> in October, he took the Republican Party line of blaming the Democrats for the government shutdown.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou have a lot of Americans that are going to be without food stamps because of the Democrats,\u201d he said, justifying the Trump administration\u2019s cuts to welfare earlier in the year as \u201ccleaning up the program of waste, fraud and abuse.\u201d<\/p>\n

Fields had previously teased his Wednesday appearance on NewsNight on his social media, saying he was \u201cback for more.\u201d<\/p>\n
