Bad news if you were hoping for a surprise holiday release of Slipknot<\/strong>\u2018s long-shelved \u201cTake A Look Outside Your Window<\/strong>\u201d album. With that lost record achieving near mythical status due to its frequent delays, the band\u2019s percussionist M. Shawn \u201cClown\u201d Crahan<\/strong> has now promised a 2026 release. <\/p>\n

Speaking today, December 03rd, via a Discord Q&A with fans amid the launch of his new Slipknot<\/strong>-themed \u2018Minecraft<\/strong>\u2018 venture<\/a>, Clown<\/strong> once again delivered the bad news<\/a>, stating:<\/p>\n

\u201cLets start with LOYW, i know I told everyone it would be this year. I\u2019m very sorry its hasnt been. Things come to play that change things all the time with the art we create. I want you to know 2026 is the year. It\u2019s just simply time and I\u2019m just getting tired of waiting myself. Have faith. I promise\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

This latest delay follows a long-running trend. Originally recorded on the side during the 2008 recording sessions for Slipknot<\/strong>\u2018s fourth studio album \u201cAll Hope Is Gone<\/strong>\u201c, \u201cTake A Look Outside Your Window<\/strong>\u201d wasn\u2019t conceived as a traditional Slipknot<\/strong> release.<\/p>\n

Instead it came to be after Crahan<\/strong>, vocalist Corey Taylor<\/strong>, guitarist Jim Root<\/strong> and turntablist Sid Wilson<\/strong> branched off from the main album sessions and recorded the eleven-song effort as an experiment of sorts. Reflecting that unconventional approach, members involved have previously described the record as possessing a \u2018Radiohead<\/strong> vibe.\u2019 Back in 2019, vocalist Corey Taylor<\/strong> described it as follows<\/a>:<\/p>\n

\u201cThe stuff from \u2018Look Outside Your Window<\/strong>\u2018 is really, really \u2014 I mean, there\u2019s no real way to describe it. It\u2019s experimental, but it\u2019s super vibey, super melodic. It\u2019s really good. It\u2019s hard to explain. There\u2019s something about those songs. They\u2019re very solemn, very energetic, very artistic. For people who are used to a certain way of Slipknot<\/strong> sounding, this doesn\u2019t sound anything like that. It\u2019s much more of a rock vibe. Honestly, it\u2019s much more of a Radiohead<\/strong> vibe, to be honest.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n

After years of sitting on the shelf, 2019 almost saw the album arrive<\/a>\u2014 on Christmas day no less. With those plans for a holiday surprise ultimately being aborted, 2023 next seemed the likely release candidate \u2014 at least Crahan<\/strong> <\/a>teased as much<\/a>. Following that failure to launch, Crahan<\/strong> went on say that 2024 would \u201cdefinitely\u201d see the release of the album<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Given that Crahan<\/strong> had stated in the latter months of 2024<\/a> that the record had been mixed and mastered, and that he had recently approved all the artwork, it seemed at least plausible this time around. Even 2025 had some rumblings of the record making it out. However, with the year having almost come and gone, we\u2019ll just have to wait and see if 2026 is indeed finally the year.<\/p>\n

While Crahan<\/strong>\u2018s latest post didn\u2019t offer specifics, there is one potential hurdle the Slipknot<\/strong> camp faced this year that could have thrown a wrench in their plans. This past November it was revealed that a number of Slipknot<\/strong>\u2018s members sold a stake in the band\u2019s royalties & publishing<\/a> via a deal reportedly worth $120 million.
