{"id":424033,"date":"2025-12-04T12:01:16","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T12:01:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/424033\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T12:01:16","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T12:01:16","slug":"exclusive-dad-spends-200k-to-help-daughters-save-money-on-nyc-rent","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/424033\/","title":{"rendered":"Exclusive | Dad spends $200k to help daughters save money on NYC rent"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Jamal Khadar, a married father of four, would give his kids the world if he could.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In today\u2019s economy, he practically is by spending $200,000 to build his eldest daughters, Jameelah, 27, and Hameedah, 26, customized apartments in his 2,600-square-foot home in Potomac, Maryland, to <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/24\/real-estate\/a-new-study-shows-how-long-nyc-renters-stay-in-their-homes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">help them avoid paying thousands on NYC rent<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It was a pricey, yet no-brainer decision that the doting dad, who\u2019s the owner of Khatraco LLC, a construction company, came to this summer, after learning Jameelah had been paying\u00a0$2,200 a month for a flex, three-bedroom apartment in Cobble Hill, and Hameedah was forking over $2,800 for a studio in downtown Brooklyn.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Sisters Jameelah and Hameedah (left and center), Khadar, left their NYC apartments to return home with their younger siblings and parents, when dad Jamal offered to build them custom apartments. Khadar Family<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe choice was obvious for me,\u201d Jamal, 61, proudly told The Post. \u201cI\u2019ve always wanted my daughters to move back home.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He launched the home renovation-turned \u201cpassion project\u201d in July, first transforming his basement into Jameelah\u2019s personal palace.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI updated the lower level of our home from an unfinished basement to a 1,100 square-foot one-bedroom apartment,\u201d said Jamal, \u201cfully ensuite with a full bathroom with heated floors, a media room (a six-seat movie theater), gym, wet bar and recreation room.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Jameelah, a lover of interior design, cherry-picked the marble tiles, wood finishes and fine furnishings for her lair. <\/p>\n<p>In exchange for dumping her city residency, Hameedah gets her own private wing of the family house, courtesy of dear old dad.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a 600 square foot studio fully ensuite with a kitchenette,\u201d Jamal explained. He\u2019s decking out the digs with a swanky bathroom, bedroom, closet and lounge space, too.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>After years of begging his oldest daughters to leave New York City and move back home to Maryland, Jamal officially began remodeling his home for the girls this summer.   @dailymoons\/TikTok<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe\u2019re also doing a 440 square-foot two-car garage for the girls,\u201d bragged the pro builder, who\u2019s happily spent \u201call my free time during the evenings and weekends\u201d redesigning his abode for the oldest of his brood.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe house was 2,600 square feet before we started all this,\u201d said Jamal, \u201cand now it\u2019s about 4,500.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>With the project underway, Hameedah is living in her childhood bedroom until the new apartment is complete, most likely by early 2026. \u201cNot having to pay rent or electricity has been amazing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/10\/07\/lifestyle\/stay-at-home-gen-z-and-millennial-hub-sons-are-2025s-tradwives\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bunking up with mom and dad<\/a> to save a few bucks is what millennials and Gen Zers, like his girls, do best.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jamal, originally from Sierra Leone, tells The Post that he\u2019s happy to sacrifice his time and money for the sake of his children.  Khadar Family<\/p>\n<p>With the cost of living in the US at a fever pitch \u2014 seeing the average Big Apple rent <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/11\/13\/business\/manhattan-rents-near-record-high-in-month-before-mamdanis-nyc-win\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exceed $4,600 per month <\/a>\u2014 a whopping 1.5 million more adults under age 35 are residing with their parents compared to a decade ago, <a href=\"https:\/\/fortune.com\/2025\/10\/08\/does-gen-z-live-with-their-parents-housing-study-15-million-more\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">per recent reports<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The cushy setup might be ideal for these young adults, but not for their parents\u2019 finances, <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2025\/07\/01\/lifestyle\/why-adults-still-living-with-their-parents-should-get-their-own-place-now\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">according to a Thrivent study<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Researchers found that 38% of parents with adult children at home have seen their retirement savings take a hit, while 39% say it\u2019s affected their ability to save for near-term goals like travel, home repairs or paying for health care.<\/p>\n<p>Hameedah, however, tells The Post that their dad and mom, Kattie, see her and Jameelah\u2019s return to the nest as a blessing rather than a burden.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jameelah tells The Post she was closely involved with the overall look of her home\u2019s basement apartment, which is saving her thousands in rent money. @dailymoons\/TikTok<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI moved to New York right after college, and ever since they\u2019ve been begging us to move back home,\u201d laughed Hameedah, a tech engineer, who\u2019s lived in the concrete jungle for the past two years, while her sister, Jameelah, who\u2019s in pharmaceutical marketing, called Gotham home for the last four years. <\/p>\n<p>And just like that, the sisters officially left the boroughs this fall.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jamal built Jameelah\u2019s bathroom with marble tiling, heated flooring and a specialized shower.   Khadar Family<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s not necessary for me to be in the city,\u201d said Jameelah, who works as a remote ad expert. \u201cI decided to make an adult decision and really think about my future.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAnd if I have the option to save money, I might as well just take advantage of it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The cash she\u2019s stashed since moving home in September \u2014 just under $10,000 \u2014 has given Jameelah complete financial freedom.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Jamal tells The Post that the $200,000 home renovation is a small sacrifice to make for his loving daughters.  Khadar Family<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s great not having to pay rent.
