GREEN COVE SPRINGS \u2013 With heavy rain forecasted for Sunday,\u00a0Rockin\u2019 for\u00a0Stockins\u00a0organizers Paul and Lisa Wane made the difficult decision Thursday morning to push back the event until Sunday, Dec. 14.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to rain,\u201d Paul said. \u201cWe decided\u00a0it was best for the children and our vendors not to\u00a0chance\u00a0it.\u00a0We\u2019ll\u00a0do it a week\u00a0later on\u00a0the 14th.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rockin\u2019 for\u00a0Stockins\u00a0is\u00a0a fifth-annual\u00a0holiday festival that provides free toys and instruments to as many as 250 children at the\u00a0Boogerville\u00a0Hideout, 6043 U.S. Highway 17.\u00a0<\/p>\n
The Wanes do it as part of their Rising Stars: Guitars for Kids nonprofit program that gifts instruments to children to give them\u00a0an option\u00a0beyond trouble, drugs, video\u00a0games\u00a0and cellphones. Since founding their foundation, the Wanes, with the help of guitar builder Jay Murphy of Keystone Heights and donations from\u00a0hundreds of residents, have given away more than 500 instruments in the last five years.\u00a0<\/p>\n
Rockin\u2019 for\u00a0Stockins\u00a0will run from noon to 6 p.m. on the 14th, and it will include live music, primarily from musicians from members of the Rising Star\u00a0family, free photos with Santa, lunch, an event T-shirt, Christmas gifts, giveaways,\u00a0raffles\u00a0and games.\u00a0<\/p>\n
