Click here to watch<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">That&#8217;s in preparation for the demolition and reconstruction of the 120-year-old station.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The CTA says the new station won&#8217;t open for three years, sometime in 2029.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">It will feature wider platforms, new elevators for full accessibility, a <a class=\"zZygg UbGlr iFzkS qdXbA WCDhQ DbOXS tqUtK GpWVU iJYzE \" data-testid=\"prism-linkbase\" href=\"https:\/\/abc7chicago.com\/post\/cta-chicago-train-station-state-and-lake-new-design\/10766502\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">striking glass canopy<\/a> and improved lighting and visibility.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">State and Lake is the fifth highest ridership station in the system, and located at one of the busiest transfer points in the Loop.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">The underground Red Line stop will remain open, but trains will not stop at the elevated station during construction.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Eastbound Lake Street between State and Wabash Avenue will be intermittently closed during off-peak hours starting Monday, for preparatory work prior to the start of the station demolition.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Once the station closes, Lake Street will be limited to local traffic only between Dearborn Street and Wabash Avenue to facilitate work under the tracks.<\/p>\n<p class=\"EkqkG IGXmU nlgHS yuUao lqtkC TjIXL aGjvy \">Southbound State will be one lane from Wacker Drive to Washington Street.
