The\u00a0suspect arrested for planting pipe bombs<\/a>\u00a0outside the Republican and Democratic National Committees ahead of the Jan. 6, 2021 riots has been identified as Brian Cole Jr. of Virginia,\u00a0who may have had \u201canarchist\u201d leanings,\u00a0sources confirmed to The Post.<\/p>\n

Cole, 30, was busted by the FBI Thursday morning in connection to the attempted bombing, just shy of the fifth anniversary of the riot at the US Capitol.<\/p>\n

Sources told The Post that investigators were looking into his possible connection with some form of \u201canarchist\u201d writings or leanings, though specifics were not immediately known.<\/p>\n

Authorities say Cole was the man caught on camera skulking around the capital city the night before former Vice President Joe Biden\u2019s election victory was to be certified by Congress, leaving \u201cviable explosive devices\u201d outside the major parties\u2019 headquarters in Washington, DC.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The video showed him carrying a backpack and wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, mask, gloves, glasses and a pair of Nike Air Max Speed Turf sneakers.<\/p>\n

The devices were found the following afternoon, just as Congress was convening to count the 2020 electoral votes \u2014 right around the time a violent melee broke out on the Capitol grounds among enraged President Trump supporters, who stormed the House and Senate chambers.<\/p>\n

But his distraught grandmother Loretta denied his involvement, describing him as \u201cautistic-like\u201d with\u00a0no political leanings.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s almost autistic-like because he doesn\u2019t understand a lot of stuff. I hope he is not talking,\u201d she told The Post in a phone interview.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s very naive\u2026He would not hurt a fly. He\u2019s just not that kind of person.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cI don\u2019t believe this at all,\u201d she added. \u201cHe\u2019s not a terrorist.\u201d<\/p>\n

She said he works at their family bail bonds company, Brian Cole Bail Bonds, which was raided by the FBI.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Loretta said her grandson rarely leaves the house, only going out for groceries and work.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cHe\u2019s just a gentle person.\u201d<\/p>\n

Asked if her grandson was in DC on Jan. 5, Loretta said: \u201cWell, I don\u2019t know. He was doing DoorDash for a while.\u201d<\/p>\n
