{"id":424832,"date":"2025-12-04T20:11:23","date_gmt":"2025-12-04T20:11:23","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/424832\/"},"modified":"2025-12-04T20:11:23","modified_gmt":"2025-12-04T20:11:23","slug":"anastasia-potapova-switches-allegiance-from-russia-to-austria","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/424832\/","title":{"rendered":"Anastasia Potapova switches allegiance from Russia to Austria"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\"><b class=\"ssrcss-1xjjfut-BoldText e5tfeyi3\">Anastasia Potapova has switched nationality from Russian to Austrian after her application for citizenship was accepted.<\/b><\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">Russia has been banned from competing in team competitions since the invasion of Ukraine, prohibiting Potapova from playing in the Billie Jean King Cup.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">The 24-year-old, who represented Russia in that tournament in 2018 and 2019, will be eligible to play for Austria next year.<\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;I am delighted to let you all know that my application for citizenship has been accepted by the Austrian government,&#8221; Potapova wrote on Instagram. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;Austria is a place I love, is incredibly welcoming and a place where I feel totally at home. I love being in Wien [Vienna] and look forward to making my second home there. <\/p>\n<p class=\"ssrcss-1q0x1qg-Paragraph e1jhz7w10\">&#8220;As part of this I am proud to announce that starting from 2026 I will be representing my new homeland Austria in my professional tennis career from this point onwards.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"Anastasia Potapova has switched nationality from Russian to Austrian after her application for citizenship was accepted.
