Lists for $2.4 Million"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tAround 11 years ago, fashion designer\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.trinaturk.com\/?srsltid=AfmBOoq9G4Z8laQ6H8JdWvRP7kfGXYdhnIIJQ7yV89Kw4_YWpQvdUurz\">Trina Turk<\/a>\u00a0ran across an\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/archive.curbed.com\/2014\/5\/9\/10101634\/lost-john-lautner-home\">article<\/a>\u00a0about a lesser-known house in <a href=\"https:\/\/robbreport.com\/tag\/los-angeles\/\" id=\"auto-tag_los-angeles\" data-tag=\"los-angeles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Los Angeles<\/a> that was created by modernist architect John Lautner early in his solo career, about a decade after he had finished an apprenticeship with Frank Lloyd Wright. Built in 1948, owned by the same family for over six decades, and on the market for $999,000, the modest-sized gem came with a striking butterfly roof and a site facing west toward the Pacific Ocean but was in need of an extensive makeover.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tTurk and her late husband, photographer and designer\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/enewspaper.latimes.com\/infinity\/article_share.aspx?guid=64567817-83a1-46f7-a00a-99476f46efef\">Jonathan Skow<\/a>, decided to go see it for themselves at a broker\u2019s open house. \u201cThe funny thing is we were blown away and said, \u2018This is amazing!&#8217;\u201d Skow told\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2017\/06\/07\/fashion\/lost-john-lautner-house-trina-turk.html\">The New York York Times<\/a>\u00a0in 2017. \u201cAnd everybody was walking around going, \u2018Oh my God, this is a nightmare.&#8217;\u201d Added Turk, \u201cWe\u2019ve been on enough architecture tours to see what potential a house could be. Ardent preservationists who had purchased and restored several midcentury homes from L.A. to Palm Springs, they subsequently engaged architect\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bestorarchitecture.com\/\">Barbara Bestor<\/a>\u00a0to undertake an extensive and costly renovation that included waterproofing the house, redoing a 1960s bedroom addition, lifting the sagging foundation, unearthing the original red concrete floors, and sanding and restaining the board-and-batten redwood siding.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tNow, after garnering a Preservation Award from the\u00a0<a target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\" href=\"https:\/\/www.laconservancy.org\/learn\/historic-places\/salkin-house\/\">L.A. Conservancy<\/a>\u00a0in 2018 and being designated as a Historic-Cultural Monument by the city of L.A. in 2021, the stylishly redone home in the <a href=\"https:\/\/robbreport.com\/tag\/echo-park\/\" id=\"auto-tag_echo-park\" data-tag=\"echo-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Echo Park<\/a> neighborhood is now back on the market. The asking price is a dash under $2.4 million, with Brian Linder and Mark H.
