\n\tMargot Robbie<\/a> is addressing the backlash over her and Jacob Elordi<\/a>\u2018s casting in Emerald Fennell<\/a>\u2018s Wuthering Heights<\/a> adaptation.<\/p>\n

\n\tIn a new interview, the Barbie star explained why she understands the comments about her and Elordi taking on the lead roles.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI get it,\u201d Robbie told British Vogue<\/a>. \u201cThere\u2019s nothing else to go off at this point until people see the movie.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tWuthering Heights\u00a0is loosely based on Emily Bront\u00eb\u2019s 1847 novel, with Robbie\u2019s Catherine being described as a brunette teenager. However, Robbie is blonde and 35 years old in real life, which led some fans to criticize the casting choice when the steamy trailer dropped earlier this year. The casting of Elordi as Heathcliff also drew pushback, as the character is described as \u201cdark-skinned\u201d in the novel.<\/p>\n

\n\t\u201cI saw him play Heathcliff,\u201d Robbie says. \u201cAnd he is Heathcliff. I\u2019d say, just wait. Trust me, you\u2019ll be happy. It\u2019s a character that has this lineage of other great actors who\u2019ve played him, from Laurence Olivier to Richard Burton and Ralph Fiennes to Tom Hardy. To be a part of that is special. He\u2019s incredible and I believe in him so much. I honestly think he\u2019s our generation\u2019s Daniel Day-Lewis.\u201d<\/p>\n

\n\tFennell weighed in on why she chose Robbie to be the lead of her film, saying, \u201cCathy is a star. She\u2019s willful, mean, a recreational sadist, a provocateur. She engages in cruelty in a way that is disturbing and fascinating. It was about finding someone who you would forgive in spite of yourself, someone who literally everyone in the world would understand why you love her. It\u2019s difficult to find that supersized star power. Margot comes with big dick energy. That\u2019s what Cathy needs.\u201d<\/p>\n
