Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Erik Karlsson delivered an all-time postgame synopsis that was honest and funny and admitted that what we all watched was both fun and not so good. Also, Pittsburgh Hockey Now is reporting an update on the Penguins sale that you’ll want to check out.

Elsewhere, a new team (the Montreal Canadiens) is checking on goalies, the Dallas Stars are about to get aggressive on the NHL trade market, and … seriously, the Penguins won that game?!

I am en route from Tampa to Dallas. The weather is nice in Dallas, and the people are great, but it’s sprawling, and downtown isn’t much. I have never found a great spot that I have to visit again, so I’m all ears if you have a great spot on the DART line or in downtown (I don’t have a car). I’ve hit a few BBQ spots by whatever hotel I’m in, and, for me, BBQ falls into three categories: Good, bad, and Southern. I hate the yellow, mustard-based Southern BBQ. I’m not sorry.

The Penguins and I will get a day away from the rink today, so perhaps I’ll roll through Dealey Plaza again, now that I believe I’ve heard something pretty close to the truth via the Rob Reiner/Soledad O’Brien Who Killed JFK podcast.

I’m still waiting for the JFK files (amongst others)!

Coming up this morning, for our subscribers, is the latest Penguins Insider column and video.

Pittsburgh Penguins

Pittsburgh Hockey Now: Let’s start with the win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Tristan Jarry is now wanted in Tampa for robbery. You can get the unbelievable Penguins win recap here.

Now, we tried to dig into that mess that was fun, awesome, wild, chaotic, and a joy to watch. Even Erik Karlsson said so. So, here is the report card, the team’s outright praise for Jarry, and the Penguins’ grades.

Not dead. Sometimes sources unexpectedly find you. I wish I could tell you how and where, but we’ve been digging on the Hoffman Group for some time, and a source with direct knowledge of the process decided to shed some light on the process and status of the Penguins sale.

And until I land in Dallas, the Erik Karlsson postgame video will be available to all, then I’m going to move it behind our paywall with the Penguins Insider.

Here is the postgame video as I tried to make the events as digestible with some analysis as possible:

NHL Trade Talk, News, & NHN

Sportnet: With respect to named players, the Toronto Maple Leafs are not gambling in the high rollers with their tray of trade chips. Nevertheless, Toronto is offering a few younger players on the market.

TSN Insiders: The Olympic rink report is expected today. Also, Chris Johnston reports that following the season-ending injury to Tyler Seguin, the Dallas Stars are going to be aggressive looking for help.

NY Post’s Mollie Walker on X: She got a healthy quote from Team USA coach Mike Sullivan on the potentially smaller Olympic rink:

“I hope that’s not the case. I think the NHL rank is too small as it is. When you think in terms of the evolution of the game and the evolution of people, we’re playing on the same size ice surface that the players were playing in the 50s, you know?”

I agree, but the NHL will never remove a row of the highest paying seats to expand the rinks, eh? …Even if most arenas could easily lose that row without losing attendance.

NHLtraderumors.me: You know me, I’m generally loathe to quote certain “insiders” who unleash verbal cheek clappers on a daily basis. However, I do have some inside info on this one–yes, the Montreal Canadiens are watching some goalies.

Philly Hockey Now: After the Penguins spanked the Flyers Monday, they had the Buffalo Sabres on deck. Those poor Sabres paid for it. As Will James writes, the Flyers are showing some positive signs this season. Here’s the Flyers blog.

NHL.com: Count ’em. Nine. Or, as Gary Dell’Abate might say, noine. The Edmonton Oilers hung a nine spot on the Seattle Kraken.

Forever Blueshirts: Artemi Panarin notched his 900th career point as the Bread Man helped the defeat the Ottawa Senators.
