{"id":426851,"date":"2025-12-05T16:39:13","date_gmt":"2025-12-05T16:39:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/426851\/"},"modified":"2025-12-05T16:39:13","modified_gmt":"2025-12-05T16:39:13","slug":"snow-flakes-in-philadelphia-area-weather-forecast-today","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/426851\/","title":{"rendered":"Snow flakes in Philadelphia-area weather forecast today"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Snow was coating roads in parts of southern <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/chester-county\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Chester County<\/a> Friday, and on the coldest morning of the season to date, flakes have crept as far north as Philly.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The odds are against it, and it may require a depth micrometer to determine the outcome, but Philly has an outside shot of experiencing its first \u201cmeasurable\u201d snow of the season. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Yes, PennDOT is aware of the potential flake invasion, and crews and trucks are on stand by, said spokesperson Krys Johnson.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">On Monday and on Nov. 18, \u201ctraces\u201d \u2014 defined as at least one flake sighted officially \u2014 were reported at <a class=\"relative z-1 text-blue-mid hover:shadow-lightmode\" data-link-type=\"article-body\" href=\"https:\/\/www.inquirer.com\/topic\/philadelphia-airport\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Philadelphia International Airport<\/a>, but an accumulation of at least 0.1 inches is a requirement for an actual snowfall.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">The smart money says Philly won\u2019t get that elusive tenth. It\u2019s not out of the question, said Eric Hoeflich, meteorologist at the National Weather Service in Mount Holly, where it was not snowing. But, he added, \u201cIt\u2019s going to be tough to eke out any accumulation.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">\u201cPhiladelphia is right on the edge\u201d of the snow line\u2019s northern boundary, he said. <\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Snow in early December does happen around here, but lack of it is the norm. The \u201cnormal\u201d value for snowfall through a Dec. 5 is 0.4 inches at PHL.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Philly\u2019s snow season typically peaks in late January into February as the prime moisture source \u2014 the Atlantic Ocean \u2014 has a chance to chill, and the cold air in the upper atmosphere ripens.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">It\u2019s certainly cold enough for snow. Lows overnight fell into the 20s, officially 25 degrees at PHL. Mount Pocono set a Dec. 5 record with a reading of 4 below zero. That\u2019s Fahrenheit.<\/p>\n<p class=\"inq-p text-primary  \">Temperatures may not get above freezing Friday, and no higher than the low 40s Saturday and Sunday, which would be several degrees below the long-term daily averages.
