The manner of death was listed as an accident.

In a statement earlier this week, Campbell’s family said he was fishing at the time of this death.

“Elden was a man of faith who trusted in his lord and savior Jesus Christ. Husband, father, brother, cousin and friend,” the family said in the statement. “He was a man to whom family meant everything — generous, funny, disciplined and kind, but could shut you down if required. A man of God, he passed doing what he loved; fishing out on the ocean, enjoying his idea of an ideal day.”

No further details about what led to Campbell’s death were immediately available.

Campbell is survived by his wife, four children and siblings.

Known as a gentle giant, Campbell played at Morningside High School before becoming the all-time leading scorer at Clemson in South Carolina. He was drafted 27th overall by the Lakers in 1990 and played alongside franchise greats Shaquille O’Neal and Kobe Bryant.

He won an NBA title with the Detroit Pistons.

Campbell also spent time with the New Orleans Hornets, Seattle Supersonics and New Jersey Nets before retiring in 2005.

He averaged 14.9 points per game with the Lakers. His best statistical season came in 1999-2000 with the Charlotte Hornets when he averaged 15.3 points and 9.4 rebounds.

Tributes from athletes, coaches and more followed word of Campbell’s death.

“I just received devastating news that my former Lakers teammate and friend Elden Campbell has passed away,” Lakers Hall of Famer Magic Johnson posted on X. “He was such a gentle soul. As a basketball player, he was extremely athletic. I loved throwing lobs to Elden because he could jump out the gym and had so much talent! Cookie and I are praying for his family and Lakers Nation as they mourn during this difficult time. Rest in peace Big E!”

A cause of death has been revealed for former Lakers player Elden Campbell, who grew up in Inglewood…

[5123
1582,276,2961,8604,224,3141,5337,1260
0":"post-426867","1":"post","2":"type-post","3":"status-publish","4":"format-standard","5":"has-post-thumbnail","7":"category-los-angeles","8":"tag-ca","9":"tag-california","10":"tag-la","11":"tag-lakers","12":"tag-los-angeles","13":"tag-los-angeles-lakers","14":"tag-losangeles","15":"tag-nba
["GET
