PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) — An estate sale on Delancey Street in Center City Philadelphia has opened its doors to crowds, offering 100,000 books for sale from the home of longtime lawyer Bill Roberts, who died in the fall.<\/p>\n
Lines of book lovers stretched around the block as organizers directed the crowd.<\/p>\n
“We take credit cards, Venmo. We’ll get you in and out,” one organizer said.<\/p>\n
“This is the most amount of books I’ve ever heard of being in a house,” said Sam Burton of Connecticut, who traveled to Philadelphia to be among the first inside. “I couldn’t resist. I saw those pictures, I had to go check it out.”<\/p>\n
Paperback books were priced at $3, hardcovers at $5 and coffee table books at $20. Three hundred of the highest-value books were auctioned, while the rest were available for purchase.<\/p>\n
“This was more like Filene’s Thanksgiving sale,” said Clayton Campbell of Rittenhouse. “It was really wild in there… people just diving for books. It was fun.”<\/p>\n
The sale was managed by Sales by Helen, an estate sale company.<\/p>\n
“Obviously the guy had a great love of books, and the people here must share that too… it’s not just about picking up a bargain,” Campbell said.<\/p>\n
