{"id":42825,"date":"2025-07-06T07:40:10","date_gmt":"2025-07-06T07:40:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/42825\/"},"modified":"2025-07-06T07:40:10","modified_gmt":"2025-07-06T07:40:10","slug":"elena-rybakina-reacts-to-wimbledons-decision-to-schedule-her-on-court-two-as-she-suffers-shock-third-round-defeat","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/42825\/","title":{"rendered":"Elena Rybakina reacts to Wimbledon&#8217;s decision to schedule her on Court Two as she suffers shock third-round defeat"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><strong>Elena Rybakina\u2019s hunt for a second Wimbledon title came to a disappointing end in the third round.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Kazakh star won her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon in 2022, defeating Tunisia\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/ons-jabeur\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ons Jabeur<\/a> in the final 3-6, 6-2, 6-2.<\/p>\n<p>Returning in 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/elena-rybakina\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rybakina<\/a> reached the quarterfinals before qualifying for the semi-finals in 2024 as she continued to impress on the grass.<\/p>\n<p>Looking for more success in 2025, the 26-year-old dropped just seven games in her opening two matches at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thetennisgazette.com\/tag\/wimbledon\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wimbledon<\/a>, breezing past Elina Avanesyan and Maria Sakkari in straight sets.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2223550518-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Elena Rybakina looks on after her second-round win at Wimbledon in 2025\" class=\"wp-image-108605\" \/>Photo by Visionhaus\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>However, it was in the third round that her run came to an end, losing out to Denmark\u2019s Clara Tauson 6-7, 3-6.<\/p>\n<p>Having been scheduled to play on Court Two rather than Court One or Centre Court (which both have roofs), Rybakina had to contend with a rain delay during the first set.<\/p>\n<p>During her post-match press conference, Rybakina gave her honest opinion on Wimbledon\u2019s decision to schedule her on Court Two.<\/p>\n<p>Elena Rybakina \u2018expected\u2019 to be on Court One and admits it would\u2019ve been \u2018much nicer\u2019<\/p>\n<p>During her post-match press conference, Rybakina revealed which court she expected to play on.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI was probably expecting Court One, but when I saw the schedule for [Court] Two. I mean, nothing I can do in that situation,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOf course, it\u2019s much nicer to play on Court One or Centre [Court], but I know there\u2019s still a lot of seeded players [in the draw] and it\u2019s not the first time I\u2019ve had to play on another court.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s the same court for everyone. Same for my opponent, so it didn\u2019t matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"683\" loading=\"lazy\"  src=\"https:\/\/www.europesays.com\/us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/07\/GettyImages-2223687999-1024x683.jpg\" alt=\"Elena Rybakina heads off court after losing to Clara Tauson at Wimbledon\" class=\"wp-image-108603\" \/>Photo by Tim Clayton\/Getty Images<\/p>\n<p>The world number 11 proceeded to highlight the reasons why she would have preferred to play on one of the main courts.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI mean, there is a roof, of course, it\u2019s much easier because you know that you won\u2019t stop, but again, it was the same for me and for her,\u201d said Rybakina.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe court was a bit softer than the other courts, and all her drop shots and slices were working well, and for me it was tough to adjust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was a bit tough today.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Rybakina was then asked about the rain, as she detailed how that affected the outcome of the match.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it was very close before the rain, and after we came back on the court, I had the chances to win the first set, but again, it was too many unforced errors for my side,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe serve was not there at all, and it\u2019s very difficult for me to play, of course, without the serve.
