Texas State Rep. James Talarico, D-Austin, will hold a San Antonio rally on Sunday as part of his U.S. Senate campaign launch tour.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The event will kick off at 1 p.m. at San Antonio\u2019s Ambassador Hall, 8751 Grimmsom Road, on the Northwest Side. Those interested in attending can RSVP by visiting the Talarico for Texas website<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Talarico is expected to address the U.S. Supreme Court\u2019s decision this week<\/a> to keep Texas\u2019 new congressional maps while they\u2019re contested in court. The Republican-controlled state legislature undertook the redistricting over the summer at the behest of President Donald Trump, ahead of what\u2019s likely to be a punishing midterm election for his party.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cVoters are supposed to choose their politicians \u2014\u00a0not the other way around,\u201d Talarico said in a statement following the SCOTUS ruling. \u201cNo matter what Donald Trump or his hand-picked Supreme Court throw our way, we\u2019re going to keep fighting.\u201d<\/p>\n

A devout Christian with progressive views, Talarico officially announced his intent to run<\/a> for a U.S. Senate seat in September. His decision came after a headline-grabbing legislative session that put the lawmaker\u2019s wit and charisma <\/a>on full display.\u00a0<\/p>\n

A well-received interview<\/a> with Joe Rogan, in which the right-wing podcaster encouraged Talarico to run for president, also didn\u2019t hurt.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Talarico currently holds a commanding 6% lead over former U.S Rep. Collin Allred, D-Dallas, in the Democratic primary, according to the latest polling<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

However, U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crocket, D-Dallas, is also considering a run and is expected to decide on Monday. If Crockett enters the race, it could lead to a Democratic runoff if no candidate garners more than 50% of the vote in the March 3 primary.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The winner of that primary will take on U.S. Sen. John Cornyn, Attorney General Ken Paxton or long shot candidate <\/a>U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt of Houston, in the general election, depending on who wins the Republican primary.\u00a0<\/p>\n
